SCHOOL & PRE-SCHOOL

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF ENG-

LAND SCHOOL

(Primary Academy Trust)

December 2014

The school community was busy in the run up to Christ-

mas. Before our Christmas celebrations, the whole school

took part in a sponsored pro-kick challenge. The children

kicked a football at a target and the speed of the ball was

recorded. It was an exciting day and all the children, and

staff, enjoyed the challenge. The school raised over

£1500.00 which will be divided between supporting the

Ely Diocese ‘Build a School’ project, while the remainder

will go to the Sports Connections Foundation.

Our Reception children performed their Christmas nativity

play ‘The Sleepy Shepherd’ to the school, family and

friends. Their first performance at Buckden School was

beautifully acted and sung. The children in Years 1 and 2

also performed their Christmas play ‘The Stars Journey’

to the school community, family and friends. They also

gave a very accomplished performance. Well done to all

our budding actor and actresses and to the staff who

turned their hand to directing, producing, costume making

and prompters.

Our annual Key Stage 2 Christmas Carol Concert was

held at St Marys Church and was attended by many par-

ents and friends of the school. This is always a festive

occasion and this was no exception. The school has

also had a group of visitors from the Buckden Churches

Together group who presented all the children in Year 2

with a Marcus DVD each. The DVD recounts stories from

the Gospel of Mark and also includes an adventure game

and stickers.

As we near the end of term we are starting to prepare for

the Spring term. The school would like to thank all par-

ent helpers and friends who regularly come into school to

work with the children. Your help is very much welcomed

and appreciated.

The school re-opens for the Spring

Term on Monday 5

. This is a change to the

previously published date.

May we take to opportunity to wish the residents of Buck-

den a very happy and prosperous new year.

The committee has decided to change the frequency

of draws and prize money from April 2015. We will

have further details in the February Roundabout.

First, the big news! News that we have been itching to tell

everyone but couldn't until it was official. The result of our

Ofsted Inspection in November was a resounding GOOD.

Since Ofsted's inspection changes, a Good can be harder

to achieve, so we were delighted and proud - a delight

only slightly marred by the knowledge that we were so

close to an Outstanding. The inspector praised the quality

of teaching, safeguarding, behaviour management and

our support of parents and carers. She was also im-

pressed by our active learning opportunities, community

involvement and special needs provision. If you would like

to read our report, you can find it online here:

December was an exciting and colourful time at preschool

as we made Christmas decorations, held our Christmas

Fayre, presented our Christmas production of Whoops-A-

Daisy Angel and enjoyed a great Christmas party at the

end of term. At the time of writing we don't have a total for

the Christmas Fayre, but we're pleased to say that we

raised £245.80 at our tombola stall at the Christmas

Lights Festival. Many thanks to everyone who ran and

supported the stall. Due to the early deadline for this is-

sue, news about our Christmas Fayre will be in next

month's Roundabout.

In 2015, we plan to build on our success and look forward

to welcoming more new starters, even as we prepare an-

other group of preschool leavers for that important move

to big school. We wish everyone a Happy New Year and

remind parents or carers of prospective pre-schoolers that

they are very welcome to visit preschool and see us in

action! Just phone Michelle Nelson, our manager, on the

number below to book an appointment.
