Biodiversity: Anglian Water’s Natural Partner
The Huntingdonshire Local Group of the Wildlife Trust is pleased to present an illustrated talk entitled
‘Biodiversity: Anglian Water’s Natural Partner’ on Wednesday 10
th
February at 7.30pm at Brampton Memorial Hall,
Thrapston Road, Brampton, PE28 4TB.
The talk will be given by Chris Gerrard who is Anglian Water’s Climate Change and Biodiversity Manager. Chris
will explain how the company is working to conserve and enhance wildlife on its land and how this work impacts
the whole region through the provision of water and water recycling services to its six million customers. Chris will
go on to discuss the range of projects and initiatives that the company are involved with, including their enduring
partnership with the Wildlife Trust.
Anyone interested in wildlife is most welcome to attend. Entrance charge £2.50 (accompanied children free). No

Buckden Local History Society
After the jollity of the December meeting, January saw Liz Davies, Curator of St Neots Mu-
seum, giving us an insight into Crime and Punishment in St. Neots. Liz introduced her sub-
ject with a general overview of punishment from the earliest days. She then gave a heart-
breaking sight of the Habitual Criminals Register for the 1870s. Photos of the poor and
disadvantaged accompanied details of their generally minor crimes and the sentence given were hard to hear.
Girls of 13 and 14 served periods of hard labour and then were sent for up to 5 years in Reform Schools where
they toiled in laundries for the profit of the school. The past really is another country!
The next meeting will be held on February 3
rd
, when the speaker will be Gordon Ryall, a coroner in Peterborough
for 40 years, 7.30pm in the Conference Room at Buckden Towers, visitors are always welcome.
