SCHOOL & PRE-SCHOOL

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF ENG-

LAND SCHOOL

(Primary Academy Trust)

November 2014

Following our half term break we returned to school ready

for the busy pre-Christmas term.

Before half term the children in Years 5 and 6 had an art

masterclass with artist Peter Partington who gave the

children guidelines on drawing birds. Following this the

children all created a piece of artwork which was dis-

played at the Childrens Wildlife Artwatch at St Marys

Church, an exhibition of the children’s work.

The school football team continues to be successful –

they have just progressed to the second round a schools

cup competition. They won their first game against Hun-

tingdon Primary School 4 – 0. Well done to the team,

Charlie, Edward, Fin, Jack, James, Joe, Jonathan,

Kieran, Mack and Ryan. The team are now looking for-

ward to their next game in the coming weeks.

We are now looking forward to our Christmas programme

of nativity plays, Christmas performances, Carol Concerts

which our parents are all invited to. More news about

these events next month!!

During November, the children have enjoyed firework

themed crafts and marked Remembrance Day by making

beautiful paper plate poppies. Miss Sam is organising

fundraising activities for Children in Need and we’re re-

hearsing Whoops-a-Daisy Angel, our Christmas produc-

tion. The Halloween Party raised £287, so thank you for

your support – we hope to see you at our Christmas

Lights Festival stall and Christmas Fayre (see advert on

page 10 for details).

November is AGM month and this means saying goodbye

to our Chairperson, Corrine Emeleus. She says: “A mas-

sive thank you to the committee who have worked so

hard. Working with Michelle Nelson (appointed Pre-

School Manager in February) and the staff, they have

overhauled the Pre-School financially and managerially to

ensure that we now have a financially secure Pre-School

with up-to date policies. We have had our Ofsted Inspec-

tion visit and are just awaiting permission to share its find-

ings. Thank you to Sonia, Lyndsey and Kate who will re-

main on the committee and to Claire, Elaine and Vikki

who are stepping down. I am leaving happy in the

knowledge that the Pre-School staff (Michelle, Sam, Es-

telle, Sammy, Alison and Denise) are doing an amazing

job, which is reflected by the very happy, stimulated and

secure children. Lastly thank you to all parents, carers,

families and local businesses that have supported us over

the past year.”

We are tremendously grateful to Corrine for her effort and

enthusiasm and wish her the very best for the future. We

now welcome Alan Scott as our new Chairperson. Alan

brings skills acquired in previous roles as an Operations

and Human Resources Director to his new role and is a

familiar face, as he has long been a preschool granddad

and staunch supporter of our events. We also wel-

come Catherine Grigg as our new Treasurer, and new

committee members Heather and Beccy.

A final request: do you have any old torches, mobile

phones, cameras or calculators you no longer use? If so,

we would love them for our role-play corner.
