Sports

Buckden Tennis Club

Anyone for tennis? Buckden Tennis club is located behind the village hall, next to the playing fields. We welcome people of all

ages and abilities, whether you are an experienced player, want to get back into tennis or just fancy taking up the game!

Our 4 all-weather hard-courts are open 7 days a week, all year round, with floodlighting to county standard. We have club tour-

naments throughout the summer. Chairman's Cup and BBQ is next, on 11th August. We also have mens, ladies and mixed

teams competing in Hunts & Peterborough Summer League after great success in the Cambs summer league. We’re always

looking for new team members so please let us know if you’re interested in joining us.

Social Play is a great way to meet up with other members and takes place on Saturdays and Sundays mornings and Wednesday

evenings. All members are welcome – no one is left out. The courts are free to members to use at other times if they wish to

arrange their own games.

For those looking to brush up their skills or learn new techniques, LTA licensed coaching is available for adults and juniors

through Over and In. Please contact our coach Matt Sanders (matt@overandin.com). Coaching is available on 1:1 basis & group

sessions can also be arranged.

For more information about the club contact our Chairman Clare Fraser on 07740456972, or

visit our website at www.buckdentennis.org.uk, or our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/buckdentennisclub

BUCKDEN JUNIOR FOOTBALL CLUB

Weekly Training Sessions For U7s-U11s Who Are Not In A Team

Next season (starting in September) BJFC is hoping to start up a weekly training session on a weekday even-

ing for all children from U7 to U11 who wish to play football but are not registered with a team. We get

quite a few parents asking whether their child can join a certain age group but most of our teams are well

subscribed and therefore cannot take on any new players, even just for training. However a weekly training

session dedicated to these potential players might be just the ticket, even if they have never been involved

in a team or even trained in a group before. This would be a great opportunity to train without the commitment that being on a

team requires, whilst it can also be a great stepping stone for any players who then wish to join one of our teams when places

become available, as squad sizes increase every 2 years and some players leave.

There would be no commitment on the part of the players or parents/carers, just a weekly fee of £3 to help cover the cost of

equipment and running of the club day to day.

However, we would need volunteers to run this enterprise

(qualification courses would be paid for by BJFC)

.

If you are inter-

ested in helping, please contact: Michael Lander (

BJFC Needs Volunteers For Committee And Tea Bar Roles

We are searching for volunteers for a number of positions in the Club, both on the Committee and in the tea bar, for next sea-

son. The positions are:

Charter Standard Representative

- to join our committee; the role includes making sure that all managers/ coaches/assistants

are up to date with their first aid, safeguarding and CRC checks and also booking courses when needed with Hunts FA to help/

improve our team officials’ quals so that we can help the players progress and develop their skills. A full handover/training will

be given.

Managers’ Representative

- to join our committee; the role includes being the first port of call for managers’ queries/issues in

the hope they can be resolved before reaching the Chairman or Secretary! You would be free to expand it as you see fit - per-

haps organising managers’ coaching sessions to discuss training mthods/drills etc.

Match Day Tea Bar

- This role would involve selling tea/coffee/snacks/hot rolls from the village Club on match days. The village

Club would order the stock and BJFC would take all the profit which would help us to, for example, make improvements to facil-

ities/equipment at the club. If there is enough interest, we could run a weekly rota system to help avoid volunteers missing out

on watching their family members’ matches.

If you, your family, friends, grandparents or parents/carers/grandparents of players wish to step forward then

please contact: Michael Lander (
