Buckden Roundabout

August 2018

As I write, we are looking forward to ending the sum-

mer term and our school year in style with a Teddy

Bears’ Picnic and Sports Day.

As part of our People Who Help Us topic, the children

have had visit from local firefighter Matt Linell and

Peterborough paramedic, Matt Withers, who brought

along his ambulance. They had a great time trying on

firefighter uniform, wearing high-vis paramedic jack-

ets, exploring the ambulance and seeing their oxygen

saturation and heart rate displayed on a monitor!

They’re now looking forward to a visit from Richard

Braddick, our local PCSO. These visits are not only fun

but also valuable learning experiences for the children,

reminding them what to do in an emergency. We

would like to thank all our visitors for giving the chil-

dren a memorable and exciting end to the school year.

As the year ends, we are saying goodbye to valued

committee members who will be sadly missed. The

staff would like to thank Danika Stevenson, Angela

Newton and Mandy Williams for their contribution to

Preschool and wish them well for the future.

We would also like to thank all those who donated

items for our tombola stall at the village fete or sup-

ported us on the day. Despite the heat and competi-

tion from the football (apparently there was an im-

portant game on??), we raised over £90.

Finally, a reminder that we are always keen to recruit

new committee members. You don’t have to be a rela-

tive of a Preschool child or have hours and hours to

spare to join. We are grateful for any time you can

spare!

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF

ENGLAND SCHOOL

(Primary Academy Trust)

July 2018

We have now reached the end of another school year –

how quickly they pass. These last few weeks have been

very busy with exciting activities.

The whole school, along with many of our parents, took

part in the ‘Race for Life’. We managed to avoid the very

hot weather by doing the walk early in the day. Many of

the participants were able to walk 12 laps of the school

field to complete the 3 kilometre walk, ready to receive

their medal at the end. Well done to everyone who took

part. We were also lucky for Sports Day – due to the hot

weather we changed the timetable for Sports Day and all

the races took place in the morning, a very hectic sched-

ule. We had the traditional mums and dads races as well

as the staff race. Well done to everyone who took part.

We finished with a picnic on the school field. Thank you

to all our visitors who came along, we hope you enjoyed

yourselves.

During transition week the children met, and spent 4 days

with their teachers for next year, and we also welcomed

our new Reception children who experienced life in

school including having a school dinner. Their week end-

ed with a teddy bears picnic on the school field. The rest

of the school had a good week preparing for next year.

During transition week our Year 6 children visited their

new secondary schools to familiarise themselves with

their new routines.

During the last week of term we had many activities tak-

ing place in school. We had our Honours assembly, with

children receiving their end of year Honours awards. The

Year 6 children had their Year 6 Leavers Prom. Everyone

dressed – the girls looked lovely in their dresses, and the

boys all looked very ‘dapper’! The leavers celebration

assembly was a very fitting finale and an emotional time

everyone who is leaving Buckden School. There were

tears from both the children and the parents. We would

like to wish the Year 6 children, and all our leavers, good

luck in their new schools.

The Buckden School community would like to thank par-

ents and members of the community who have support-

ed the school during the past year. We wish you all a

good summer and look forward to seeing you in Septem-

ber at the start of the next school year.
