Buckden Roundabout

August 2018

Village News

BUCKDEN WI

Our July meeting was party night. The committee provided scones, jam, cream and strawberries and

also served the tea. Some members provided their own drink to make it more of a social evening. We

all enjoyed eating and socialising with each other. It was a relaxing evening before our Summer break.

We were entertained by a local choir “One over the Eight” who provided an informal concert for us.

This was much enjoyed by all and we are looking forward to their next visit.

At the next Meeting, Tuesday 4

th

September 7:30pm in the Millard Suite at the Village Hall our talk will be about ACCW (WI sup-

ported charity). Everyone is welcome.

The competition is a foreign holiday memento.

Bookings

During August the usual Hall timetable will be a little different due to the summer holidays. Some exercise classes will not

be running so please check our website. We would like to welcome Loraine who has just started a new Pilates class in the

Lincoln Room on a Wednesday evening at 6:30pm. There will also be a Stay and Play Summer Scheme for youngsters from

1:30pm on 7

th

August.

Weddings

The Hall has several weddings booked between now and Christmas. Please contact me if you would like to discuss your

wedding reception. The Hall totally transforms when the marquee is pulled across the ceiling.

Village Festival

A massive thank you to everyone who came along to the Village Festival! It was a great weekend. Thank you also to the

Village Festival Committee for organising the fantastic event – especially Philip Miles who has once again done a tremen-

dous job. Thank you also to everyone who bought raffle tickets. This year we are raising money to refurbish the pavilion,

which is used by both cricket and football teams so has year-round use by young and older alike.

Fencing around the children’s playground

We have received complaints about the noise that is made when footballs are kicked against the fencing which is around

the children’s playground. It is also causing the fencing joints to weaken.

Please do not kick balls against the fence.

Don’t forget that as residents of Buckden you all receive discounted rates on Hall hire. Please call or email me if you

would like to find out more information.

Buckden Friends

A big thankyou to all who helped out at the Buckden Village Festival.

Thank you to all those who contributed a painted stone to our River of Stones. The stones have been varnished by Brian and

taken to the school for display in their grounds. I have spare stones if you want to paint some to hide around the village.

On

Thursday 16th of August at 7pm

we will be having a FUN quiz night at Waterside lounge, Buckden Marina in aid of raising

funds towards much needed ramps for a disabled person in our village. £10 on the door includes a Shepherd’s Pie supper and

the quiz. Teams formed on the night. Please book 810355
