POETRY CORNER

Welcome once again to Poetry Corner. The Roundabout is looking for submissions of poems of no more than 30 lines from all

and every resident of Buckden. We would especially like the school children to participate. So get writing those masterpieces

and send them to the Editor. This month, Ken Bushell has written the poem 'Looking at Life’.

When a man reaches Eighty

The end is in sight

Either he’s bald

Or his hair has turned white

He’s off to bed early

And turns off the light

Knowing he’ll visit the bathroom

Many times in the night

Taking a nap happens often each day

Doing odd jobs, stems off final decay

He contacts his kids and his grandchildren too

Urging them to succeed at what he failed to do

Where did happiness go ?

He reflects on his life

He had more than his share but

He misses his wife

In the local newspaper he scans every week

The obituary columns, he is trying to seek

If his name is among them. If it’s not he’s OK

And ready to enjoy living the rest of the day
