March has been another busy month. The children
made fantastic cards for Mother’s Day and then
took part in a special craft session with their mum-
mies, making beautiful flowers and necklaces while
enjoying a delicious cake or two! Many thanks to
everyone who supported or attended the craft
morning – it was lovely to see you all in Preschool.
As I write, we’re also getting ready for St. Patrick’s
Day fun, including shamrock design printing, and of
course preparing to mark Holi, Easter and Passover
too.
On the fundraising front, a huge thank you must go
to everyone who sponsored their child for the Pan-
cake Flip and joined in with our pancake races. Not
only was it great fun, but we raised an astonishing
£254 for Preschool! We’re also very grateful that
One Stop has chosen us as the local charity that
will receive proceeds from their sale of carrier bags
for the first three months.
We’ve been raising money for others, too, so
thanks also to the children (and assisting parents!)
who shared their favourite books and dressed up
for World Book Day, raising £13 for Book Aid Inter-
national, which provides books to those who can’t
afford or access them.

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF
ENGLAND SCHOOL
(Primary Academy Trust)
March 2016
As Spring approaches, although it is pouring with rain as
I write this, we are busy preparing for the better weather.
March was a busy month with class visits, Mothers Day
Afternoon Tea, school productions and a concert when
our Year 3 children were able to show off their singing
skills. The children are having inter-house sports events
with cross country and a hockey tournament taking
place this month.
At the start of the month two of our classes visited the
Nene Valley Railway. Their day started with a ride on
the steam train, stopping off at an old style signal box to
discover how it worked. The day continued with the chil-
dren learning about the steam railways. Everyone had a
good day, although the weather could have been kinder.
The PTA hosted a Mothers Day Afternoon Tea for our
Mums and Grandmas. Our visitors enjoyed a cup of tea
with their scones or cake – in some cases both! The
PTA also organised a shop where the children were
able to buy a present for their mums. It was a lovely
afternoon – we were pleased to see so many of our
mums join us.
Our Year 3/4 children have been very busy writing,
learning, practising and performing their end of term
play. ‘Our Journey Through Time’ was based on the
topic work each of the classes had studied during the
Spring term. Parents and friends who came along and
enjoyed the production. Well done to all our budding
actors and actresses and to the staff who turned their
hand to writing, directing, producing, costume making
and prompters.
Our Year 3 children had the opportunity to take part in
‘Singfest’. This is a county wide musical extravaganza
with many schools coming together in Cambridge to
rehearse and perform a concert in front of their parents
and visitors. It was a busy, tiring day but the concert
was amazing, enjoyed by our parents who went to
watch and support the children. It was a fitting end to
the Spring Term.
The school is collecting the ‘Active Kids’ vouchers being
given out when you shop in Sainsburys. We are aiming
for a record collection this year which will enable us to
buy sports equipment for the school. If you do shop in
Sainsburys, please collect the vouchers and bring them
into the school office. We are grateful for all donations.
Thank you.
We would like to wish the residents of Buckden a Happy
Easter. We look forward to seeing you when we return
for the Summer Term on Monday 11
th
April.
