Thought for the month
It is just over a year since Jane, our dog Brandy and I came to serve you here in Buckden. It has been a year of
sorrows as we have had to say goodbye to some good friends, but also a year of great joys, and most of all pleas-
ure as we have felt so accepted by you all. Thankyou.
As I write this autumn is drawing in, the new term has started and ‘normal life’ has begun again. With this there
are plenty of opportunities to explore the Christian faith at one of our churches. The several special services –
Harvest, Remembrance and then Christmas are an easy way of joining us in worship and exploration. Please do
join us if you can.
Here in Buckden we are blessed with a beautiful church, dedicated to the worship of God and the service of our
community. The entries in our visitors book show that our church is appreciated by the many people who visit from
all over the world, and we think is a considerable asset to the community. Much of the church, as many of you
know dates back to 15
th
century, and so periodically parts of the church need to be repaired to maintain its existing
good condition quite apart from any improvements we may wish to make.
This is one of those periods. We are facing the prospect of incurring considerable non-optional expenditure to ef-
fect repairs to the roof, the organ and the stonework. We are in the process of contacting the various grant making
bodies, but at this stage it appears there may be a significant shortfall.
Therefore this autumn we are launching a project to reach out to the community, and indeed all who use the
church, and asking them to consider how they might be able to support us. You will find further details elsewhere
in this issue. We hope you will feel able to join us in preserving this beautiful building to the glory of God and the
service of our community.
