November 2017

Village Notices

BUCKDEN NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

The message is always the same from Neighbourhood Watch during the autumn with British Summer Time coming to end and

clocks going back an hour:

It’s a good time to review your home lighting. For additional security fit timers to lights in one or two rooms.

Set them to come on and off at random times to give the impression that someone is at home.

Ensure, if fitted, that the outside security light is working.

If not fitted, you can purchase a security light at DIY store or online. There are several different types of outside security

light available, many with built-in motion sensors, and all are economical to run.

OUTSIDE BUILDINGS

Many crimes are often a shed or garage break in - prevent this by using security lighting and fitting a strong lock.

Wild Sri Lanka: the Pearl of the Indian Ocean

Next month, our topic moves much further away from home. We will be hosting Jo Thomas whose subject will be ‘Wild Sri

Lanka: the Pearl of the Indian Ocean’. As usual, this will be held at Brampton Memorial Hall, Thrapston Road, Brampton, Hun-

tingdon, PE28 4TB. The date is Wednesday 8

th

November at 7.30pm.

Jo invites us to discover the Island’s rich biodiversity, from the Sri Lankan blue magpies in the verdant tropical forests to the

blue whales off the scenic coastline where turtles also breed. Jo Thomas is the Director of Wild About Travel and she has trav-

elled extensively, particularly across India, for 25 years. Jo recently added Sri Lanka to her growing list of destinations and her

talk today will show us that this truly is the Pearl of the Indian Ocean.

Anyone with an interest in wildlife is most welcome to attend. Booking is not necessary. Entrance charge £2.50 (accompanied

children free). Please contact Tim on 01480 457795 for more information.
