VILLAGE NEWS

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH (NHW)

BEWARE THE SUPERMARKET CAR PARK SCAM

Be wary of anyone who approaches you in the super-

market car park. Thieves watch as their victims enter

their pin numbers at supermarkets checkouts .This is

known as ‘’shoulder surfing’’ by police.

Typically known for being a technique used at cash-

points before a card is snatched, it’s also spreading to

supermarkets and other stores.

Beware of thieves working in pairs, following victims to

the car park before finding a way to distract them. This

may, for example, be asking for directions or pointing

out a supposed flat tyre. Meanwhile their accomplice

steals the victim’s wallet.

DODGY PAYMENT REQUESTS

Fraudsters are targeting members of the public who

are expecting to make a payment for property repairs.

The fraudsters, via email, will purport to be a trades-

man who has recently completed work at the property

and use a similar email address to that of the genuine

tradesman. They will ask for funds to be transferred

via bank transfer and once payment is made the vic-

tims of the fraud soon realise they have been deceived

when the genuine tradesman requests payment for

their services.

Deadpool (2016) 15

This film was an unexpected pleasure! Based upon Mar-

vel’s most unconventional

anti

-hero, Deadpool tells the

origin of former special forces operative turned mercenary

Wade Wilson (played excellently by Ryan Reynolds) who,

after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves

him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego

Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted

sense of humour, Deadpool hunts down the man who

nearly destroyed his life. Marvel but not as we know it. Out

on DVD now.

The Lady in the Van (2015) 12A

Based on a true story of Miss Shepherd (Maggie Smith) a

rather stubborn homeless woman who ‘temporarily’ parks

her Bedford van in Alan Bennett’s (Alex Jennings) Camden

driveway and stays there for 15 years… What begins as a

begrudged favour becomes a relationship that will change

both their lives. A cosily enjoyable British comedy-drama

film for a rainy night in. Out on DVD now.

Zootropolis (2016) PG

The city of Zootropolis is a mammal metropolis where

(anthropomorphic) animals live and be whatever they want

to be. When Judy Hopps becomes the first bunny rabbit to

join the police force, she quickly learns how tough it is to

enforce the law. Determined to prove herself, Judy jumps

at the opportunity to solve a mysterious case of some

missing mammals. Unfortunately, that means working with

Nick Wilde, a wily fox who makes her job even harder... An

absolute Disney winner for the whole family. Released on

DVD 25th July.
