As I write, we are looking forward to seeing everyone at
our Teddy Bear’s Picnic on 26th June, and feeling very
grateful to Pauline Coker for stepping in at short notice to
provide musical activities for the event! Thank you, Paul-
ine. This month, our table has been covered with brightly
coloured objects that the children have found for Colour of
the Week and they enjoyed bubble painting, creating
playdough Mr Potato Heads and making cards and gifts
for Father’s Day. They also enjoyed learning about nursing
when Vikki Brooks and Lyndsey Jolley came to visit as
part of our People Who Help Us topic. A big thank you to
them both!
In July, our leavers will be going for their school visits and
we’re hoping to meet more People Who Help Us. We’ll
also be marking Bastille Day, getting sparkly as we finish
Colour of the Week with silver and gold, and saying good-
bye to our leavers with a fun-filled last day and party lunch.
This year, there’s no need to miss Preschool over the
summer (if it ever arrives!), as everyone is welcome to our
Summer Stay ‘n Play sessions! See our advert for details.

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF ENG-
LAND SCHOOL
(Primary Academy Trust)
May 2015
As we approach the final few weeks of the summer term,
we are still waiting for the summer weather to arrive!
For the Buckden Open Gardens some of the children in
Key Stage 2 contributed by creating their own miniature
gardens as well as making paper flower arrangements
and working on art and poetry projects. All of the work
was on display in the church – we hope you were able to
visit the church to see the children’s work.
Our Year 6 children visited the Sedgwick Museum in
Cambridge. This visit helped the children to understand
the work they have been doing on the science about the
formation of fossils. They were also able to see some of
the artefacts Charles Darwin brought back from his voy-
ages around the world. It is a very interesting museum –
one to visit if you have a spare afternoon! Our Reception
children have visited Paxton Pits to discover the world of
the mini-beast. They spent a lovely day searching for
them in the ponds and undergrowth.
Our Year 6 children had their Enterprise Day. For a week
the children had to create a business with a business
plan, cost it out and make their goods and games. This
culminated in an Enterprise afternoon when the whole
school were able to buy the goods or play the games.
The money raised will be donated to charity, to be voted
on by the Year 6 children.
Our sports teams continue to excel. The Year 4/5 football
team played in the quarter finals of the Cambridgeshire
Schools Cup competition. They won the game 8-2 and
are now waiting to play in the semi-final very soon. The
Year 5/6 Athletics team competed in the Inter Schools
Athletics competition at The Ivo track, St Ives. Unfortu-
nately it was a very cold day, but the team all gave of
their best. We will have to wait for a few days to see how
they did compared to other schools – to be updated in the
next Roundabout.
One of our most popular events – the Fathers Day lunch
– took place this month. Over 60 fathers came to school
for a feast of Roast Pork, Steak Pie or Chicken strips,
followed by Jam Roly Poly or Chocolate Fudge Cake. It
was another successful lunch prepared by the kitchen
team.
We still have much to look forward to in the last weeks of
the school year – full details next month!
