FRIENDS IN DEED

There are times in our lives when

we could all do with a little extra

support or companionship what-

ever our age or circumstance.

Do you have a few hours you could spare each month?

If so, you could help Buckden Friends in Deed in a varie-

ty of ways. Baking a cake, serving tea and coffee, driving

or by visiting someone who is lonely and need of a little

extra companionship.

On the 2

nd

Wednesday of each month at 2.00pm in the

Living Stones Room in St Mary’s Church is the Communi-

ty Café. Donations of home-made cakes are greatly re-

ceived and enjoyed by those who visit the café. Helping

to serve the refreshments at the Community Café.

Drivers required to take people who can no longer drive

or use public transport to vital appointments. For this

you will be reimbursed 45p a mile. Transport Co-

ordinator 07914669967. Leave a short message includ-

ing your contact details and we will get back to you. This

number is to request transport or to become a driver.

Visiting someone in the village who is lonely and strug-

gles to get out. By visiting just once a week for a chat

and a cup of tea you could make a real difference to

someone’s life.

If you have what you think it takes, contact Angie who is

the Friends in Deed Co-Ordinator

Tel:-

07810006598 for

a short chat.

Fascinating Fungi – An Introduction to Mycology

The Huntingdonshire Local Group of the Wildlife Trust

invites you to this illustrated talk, which will be given by

Peter Walker on Wednesday 8th January 2020.

Peter has a wealth of knowledge on this subject and he

will present an absorbing talk about these diverse or-

ganisms that often appear only transiently, maybe for as

little as a few days, before disappearing again to spend

most of their lives hidden underground.

Peter will tell us about the identification, habitat, biolo-

gy and uses of fungi. This should be a fascinating talk

that will be of interest to many.

Meetings are held at Brampton Memorial Hall, Thrap-

ston Road, Brampton, PE28 4TB starting at 7.30pm. Eve-

ryone welcome, booking not necessary.

BUCKDEN WI

Our December meeting was the A.G.M. which gave mem-

bers the opportunity to vote for

the committee and the President

for 2020. The present committee

was re-elected with the addition

of Jessica Blagbrough and Rosey

Studd. Ruth Nicholas was again

elected as President. We said fare-

well to Mary Perkins who has been our Treasurer. Ruth

thanked Mary for keeping the accounts in good order.

Once the formalities were over, members enjoyed a fish

and chip supper and relaxed and socialised with their

friends.

Our next meeting in the New Year is a Cheese and Wine

evening to be held on Tuesday 7

th

January at 7:30pm in

the Millard Suite at the Village Hall. Members are asked

to pay their annual subscription of £43. Also, to bring

their voting slip from the November/December copy of

W.I. Life page 27 in order to choose our 2020 resolutions.

Wine and Cheese will be provided by the Committee.

Everyone is warmly welcomed. A way to make new

friends is to join the W.I. or come along as a visitor
