As I write this, we are still gearing up for Christmas,
unwrapping a Christmas story to read every day and
making sparkly Christmas decorations and cards. But
by the time you
read
this, the festive period will be
winding down – so as we forgot to wish everyone a
merry Christmas and New Year last month, we will
take this opportunity to hope that you’re all enjoying
the festive period and wish you a very happy New
Year.
As always, it was wonderful to be part of Buckden’s
Christmas Lights event and our tombola stall raised
over £230. Many thanks to all those who donated
items, ran our stall or supported us by buying tickets,
too. We’re also grateful to everyone kind enough to
pop their change into our collection box at Nisa – and
to Nisa for their continuing support.
Thanks must also go to key committee members who
announced their resignation at November’s AGM.
Our chairperson, Alan Scott, who has a long history
of bringing grandchildren to the preschool, has
stepped down after two years and we wish him all
the best for the future. We’re very grateful to him for
stepping in when we desperately needed a chairper-
son. Our treasurer Catherine, who kindly stayed on
to help us long after her son departed preschool, has
also resigned. Her support and enthusiasm will be
greatly missed and we wish her well.
The people stepping into their shoes deserve a thank
you too. Lindsey Page brings a wealth of early years
experience to her new role as Chairperson, as does
our new Treasurer Hazel Hunter, whom some of you
may remember as our Deputy Supervisor not so
many years ago! We look forward to working togeth-
er to maintain the preschool’s success as we go into
2017 and to welcoming our new starters in January,
too.

VILLAGE NEWS
BUCKDEN CHURCH OF
ENGLAND SCHOOL
(Primary Academy Trust)
December 2016
The school community was busy on the run up to Christ-
mas. Our Reception children performed their nativity
play ‘Christmas with the Aliens’ to the school, family and
friends. Their first performance at Buckden School was
beautifully acted and sung. The children in Years 1 and
2 also performed their Christmas play ‘Lights, Camel
Action’ to the school community, family and friends.
Another very accomplished performance was given by
the children. Well done to all our budding actors and
actresses and to the staff who turned their hand to di-
recting, producing, costume making and prompters.
We had a maths morning when parents and grandpar-
ents were invited into school to join in their children’s
maths lessons. It was lovely to see so many parents
and friends come along. We hope our visitors found it
an interesting and informative morning - although some
of our visitors did leave the building with somewhat
glazed expressions!
The children in Years 5/6 have been busy singing their
Christmas carols and songs at the Buckden Christmas
Lights Switch-On, as well as visiting the residents of
Hardwick Dene. Our annual, Key Stage 2 Christmas
Carol Concert was held at St Marys Church and was
attended by many parents and friends of the school.
This is always a festive occasion and this year was no
exception.
Our PTA were also busy at the Christmas Lights Switch-
On. They manned Santa's Grotto, and organised a very
successful raffle. They also organised the end of term
Christmas discos for the children at school. Thank you
to their hard work fundraising this term – they have more
fundraising events planned for us during the Spring
Term.
The school would like to thank all parent helpers and
friends who regularly come into school to work with the
children. Your help is very much welcomed and appre-
ciated. May we take the opportunity to wish the resi-
dents of Buckden a very happy and prosperous new
year.
The school re-opens for the Spring Term on
Wednesday 4
th
January

Christmas & New Year waste and recycling collections
Important points to remember when putting your waste out for collec-
tion:
Do not overfill your bins or bags and ensure the bin lid is closed
Your waste must be out for collection by 6.30am on the day of collec-
tions
Your waste must not be placed out before 6pm on the day before the
collection
Collections take place from your ‘edge of premise’ unless other ar-
rangements have been made. The council will only collect waste set
out for collection in the containers provided by the council
During February 2017, changes are being made to the refuse and recycling collection rounds. This will mean that
your collection day may be changing. Look out for more information which will be delivered to you early 2017.
