NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH (NHW)
OPERATION HUNTER TACKLES ANNUAL
BURGLARY RISE
Police are urging residents to check their home securi-
ty to help prevent a rise in burglaries over the winter
months. Dwindling hours of daylight and the Christmas
period often combine to result in more break-ins.
Police are prioritising burglary as part of a new cam-
paign called Operation Hunter. Officers are combining
prevention work with catching and putting offenders
before the courts. As part of the operation, police are
urging everyone to do their part by taking precautions
and making their home unattractive to burglars.
Information police receive from the public is crucial
and residents should never hesitate to report some-
thing that appears unusual or suspicious.

pages and the online survey tool at

Always keep doors and windows closed and
locked and remove keys after locking.
Never leave items such as keys, bags and mon-
ey on show through a window.
Use timer switches to turn on lights and radios
when you are likely to be out at dusk.
Consider the use of lights at the front and rear
of your property that are activated when some-
one approaches.
Consider the use of bolts and padlocks on side
gates. Place the bolts at the top, middle and
bottom of the gate as just a top bolt might be
easy to reach and open.
Anyone with information should contact police on 101
or Crime stoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 or
online at
www.crimestoppers-uk.org
Call 999 if the incident is recognised as an emergency.

Buckden Friends
I recently spent a week at Thoresby Hall, organised
by Pat & Brian King.
The group was mostly from Buckden and I can thor-
oughly recommend these occasions. Everything was
catered for including an outing to Sheffield (if people
wanted to go).
The rooms were excellent and people with physical
difficulties were looked after. The food was good and
there was plenty of entertainment if you cared to join
in. I enjoyed it all and look forward to the next one.

BUCKDEN WI
Buckden W.I. will continue
after the appointment of a
new treasurer after some
months of uncertainty! So,
with a great sense of relief
we enjoyed our fish and
chips at the December meet-
ing.
On the 5
th
January we will gather to start the year
and learn about honeybees in line with a current na-
tional campaign.
The competition will be for a ‘honeypot’ and the stall
will carry flower arranging books belonging to Paddy
Oliver and donated by her son Mark to raise money
for our funds. Subscriptions are now due but visitors
are always welcome on the first Tuesday of the
month at 7.30pm at Buckden School.
