Buckden Roundabout

February 2017

School and Pre-School

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF

ENGLAND SCHOOL

(Primary Academy Trust)

February 2017

We would like to wish residents of Buckden, Diddington and

Southoe a very Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year

from the staff and pupils at Buckden School.

We returned after the Christmas holidays ready for the new

term. It is a much quieter time at school following the hectic

build up to Christmas.

The major event of this month was the school Young Voices

choir attended the Young Voices concert at The 02 Arena in

London. This is a national event with schools from all over

the country attending, to perform together. All the music was

specially selected and gave our children a wide variety of

songs to perform. The choir has been learning and practising

the songs since September. On the day of our concert there

were over 5,000 children singing, accompanied by a wide

range of musicians and artists, to create an amazing perfor-

mance. We spent most of the day practising for the evening

concert which- many of our parents were able to come along

to enjoy. We arrived back at school very late. What an ex-

citing, eventful and tiring day, but we all had a wonderful

time.

We are well into the swing of the spring term now and have

introduced a new routine so that children spend more time

with peers of their own age in separate spaces, although they

still come together for shared play and snack time. This has

worked well, allowing us to give the children access to more

age-appropriate activities. We’ve also started working our

way through the alphabet for our theme of the week.

Our new starters have settled well into preschool life and as

the term progresses, we’re looking forward to planting seeds

and starting spring and Easter activities.

Nisa has kindly been playing host to a donation pot for Pre-

school and their customers raised £25.50 for us in December.

We would like to thank Nisa yet again for their continuing

support of Preschool and thank their customers for donating

so generously. Thanks to this and donations from carers and

parents of last year’s leavers, we have been able to purchase

literacy resources, more books to support diversity and emo-

tional wellbeing and some lovely new numeracy resources to

encourage counting and numeral recognition. We also buy

resources using Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers and this

year’s campaign has now started, so we would be grateful for

donations of any vouchers. Thank you!

The way the dates fall in February means

that we have a very compressed production

schedule—in fact the copy deadline date is

the same as the proof-reading date!

Please, please, submit your copy as

early as possible, preferably well be-

fore the deadline of 10th February.
