SCHOOL & PRE-SCHOOL NEWS
BUCKDEN PRE-SCHOOL PLAYGROUP
It is hard to believe that this will be our last article
before we break up for Christmas! We are all looking
forward to some festive crafts and activities to get us
in the spirit over the next few weeks. Thank you to all
those who purchased tea towels this year which has
raised over £80 and, at time of writing, we have (just
about!) recovered from our Halloween Party which
raised an amazing £390. A huge thank you to all
those who helped make this possible.
We had a great time during ‘Children In Need Week’
dressing up in PJ’s, enjoying activities and coffee
and cakes (not forgetting Miss Sam’s grand cake
raffle!) We will let you know how much we raised for
this charity next month.
By the time you read this we will also have had our
Christmas Fayre which is our largest fundraising
event of the year, we hope that you had fun and one
again, can’t wait to let you know how much was
raised.
It is with sadness that I also have to report Miss
Tracey’s departure from Pre-School. She has been a
great addition to the team and will be missed by
staff, children and parents alike. We would like to
wish her all the best for the future.
As you may or may not know Pre-School is a charity
run by a committee of volunteers. Without volunteers
there would not be a Pre-School. Perhaps you could
get involved for an hour or two once a term (or more
if you feel able or inclined!) This could be all the dif-
ference between the Pre-School staying open or
closing. If you feel you are able to get involved in any
way either by helping out, joining the committee or
just doing the odd job before or during events we
would love to hear from you. We are still on the look
out for a new chairperson to lead our fantastic team
– so if you, or anyone you know could be interested
in this rewarding role PLEASE let us know!
Finally, I am pleased to announce the new website is
up and running! There is still development to be
done but you will be able to find out up to date infor-
mation on our noticeboard, a calendar with all the
dates you need for your diary and much more! If you
have any suggestions for what else you would like to
see appear, let Pre-School know.
Have a Merry Christmas and very Happy New Year!
We’re looking forward to seeing you all in January.

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF
ENGLAND SCHOOL
(Primary Academy Trust)
November 2013
Following our half term break we returned to school
ready for the busy pre-Christmas term.
It started with our Year 3 and 4 children visiting the
Science Museum in London. They were exploring
the world of inventions and how they have changed
over the centuries. Whilst at the museum they were
able to visit The Launchpad
which was
packed with
over 50 interactive exhibits all from the wonderful
world of physics.
Everyone had a very busy, but ex-
citing day.
On Friday 15
th
November we celebrated Children In
Need Day by coming to school in our pyjamas. We
bought in all our small coins to lay a money trail. Mrs
Bigg in the kitchen made us special biscuits which
were very tasty. We are looking forward to the pan-
tomime, Sleeping Beauty, coming to visit, which will
start the Christmas season at the school. The chil-
dren in Key Stage 1 are busy preparing for their
Christmas productions. The Friends of Buckden
School are having their annual Christmas Fayre on
Saturday 7
th
December 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm. Do come
along and enjoy the afternoon with us all and we are
looking forward to entertaining the Over 60’s on Fri-
day 13
th
December at an Afternoon Tea Dance. Visi-
tors will be invited to the school for an afternoon of
tea and cakes, entertainment and an opportunity to
dance with the Year 6 children who have been learn-
ing the art of ballroom dancing. If you would like to
attend please telephone Buckden School – 01480
810241.
If you have a child who is due to start school in Sep-
tember 2014 (born between 1
st
September 2009 and
31
st
August 2010) the application process for primary
school places opened on 18
th
November. All applica-
tions must be submitted to Cambridgeshire County
Council Admissions Department by 15
th
January
2014. You can make your application on line via the
