Buckden Roundabout
April 2018
BUCKDEN WI
In our March meeting we welcomed “Tori” Alexander, a member of the Cambs/Beds Bat groups, which
are affiliated to the Bat Conservation Trust. She explained how bats are a protected group of mammals
and part of her job is to ensure that their natural environments are protected especially from developers.
We saw many photographs of these delightful creatures, Pipistrelles being the most common in our
country. It was a most interesting talk, covering how they echo-sound, what they eat and how we can protect them.
Our next meeting is on April 3rd at 7.30 pm in the Millard Suite and is entitled “Looking after our feet”. The competition is for a
pair of shoes with “bling”!

War Memorial Playing Fields Trust Public Meeting
Following a successful meeting on 16
th
February, the landscape architects are preparing a master plan for improvements to
the playing field and valley area. The Trustees expect this to be delivered in April, following which there will be another pub-
lic meeting to gauge the village’s reaction to it. Details of the meeting, which will probably be held in June, will be published
in the Roundabout. The Trustees hope many of you will attend the meeting to give your views on this proposed develop-
ment of an area of central importance to the village.
Chairman vacancy at Buckden Village Trust
The current chair of the Trust, John Thelwall, has notified the Trustees that it is his intention to retire as chairman in July
2018.The Trustees are therefore looking for a community minded person to take over the position next year.
It is an interesting and rewarding position. The Village Hall and the recreation ground have a central position in village life.
The Trustees, and particularly the chair, contribute a great deal to the village in managing this well used facility we are lucky
enough to have. The job of chair is not particularly demanding nor does it take a great deal of time. It does not require any
special skills.
If you would like to make a major contribution to the village community please contact me (details below).
Don’t forget that as residents of Buckden you all receive discounted rates on Hall hire. Please call or email me if you
would like to find out more information.
You can see our full calendar of events on the website.

helped out on the day, providing delicious homemade cakes, transporting guests, hosting and assisting in a
very busy kitchen!
The Drop-in Café in St Mary’s Church is on the second Wednesday of every month,
