Buckden Roundabout

September 2018

Village Notices

Buckden Gardeners Association

It is with much regret that the committee have

decided to

cancel the forthcoming Autumn

show

scheduled for Saturday 8th September

2018.

This summer has been exceptionally hot and

dry, with some record-breaking temperatures and very little

rain. Most gardens are looking a little different this year;

parched flower beds, lawns that look like straw and vegetables

that have failed to thrive. This means that this year there are

insufficient entries to be able to hold a Garden Show. In 2019

we anticipate a bright and colourful show.

Could all last year’s Autumn trophy winners please return their

cups to John, 1 Lark End Buckden. Tel: 01480 812008

Buckden Gardeners Association would like to welcome new

members from Buckden and the surrounding area in Hunting-

donshire. Annual membership £5.00, visitor fee £2.00.

All forthcoming events start at 7.45pm in the village hall and

are advertised in the Roundabout and on our web site:

http://www.buckdengardeners.info/

16th October - Paxton Pits Nature Reserve talk about Birds

20th November - "Garden Colour All Year Round" talk by Geoff

Hodge; radio presenter, journalist and writer.

BLPSPA

Who is a member?

As a patient registered

with the Buckden & Little

Paxton Surgeries, you are

a member of the Surgery

Patients’ Association

(BLPSPA). We need you to feel part of it.

How does it work?

There is a committee that meets 4 times a year. There is

a chair/ secretary/ treasurer/and village representatives

all of whom stand for election annually in September

What does it do?

The BLPSPA supports the development of good health in

our community.

It can organise the transport of patients to and from the

surgery when necessary.

Fundraising through the Association provides amenities

at the surgeries, for example to meet the stringent re-

quirements of Health and Safety (the chairs in the

waiting rooms), and the automatic doors and their

maintenance. We’ve funded the wifi connection, new

radios in both surgeries, the check-in screens, blood

pressure monitors for patients to borrow, pillows for

examination couches, and most recently purchased new

phlebotomy chairs. We’re currently looking at upgrading

the bicycle racks at Buckden Surgery. Funds are raised

mainly through the 200 Club. Significant sums raised by

the book sales at Little Paxton also help.

Informative talks and social events such as coffee morn-

ings are organised.

We also can provide, where appropriate, communica-

tion between patients and surgery staff, enhancing what

is available.

How can I become involved?

You could join the committee – our next round of elec-

tions is in September. Alternatively, you may have ideas

of topics for events that could be of interest to you or

your family. Or you may have a particular interest or skill

to contribute? We also try to be at village events where

you can talk to us. Please do get in touch.
