A date for your diary - 1

st

July 2016, 11 a.m.

This date is for the ceremony of remembrance and the unveiling of the commemorative paving stone for Captain

John Leslie Green VC. The ceremony will begin at the Green Memorial, opposite the Towers and we will then pro-

gress to the War Memorial in St Mary’s Churchyard, where the commemorative paving stone will be unveiled. After

the ceremony, light refreshments will be available in the Methodist Hall, where there will be a display of work

about the First World War by children at Buckden School.

All residents of Buckden, Stirtloe and Diddington are invited to attend.

Calling all photographers

The Parish Council will again hold its Photographic Competition as part of the Festival Weekend celebrations at the

beginning of July. We are hoping for a bumper number of entries this year, especially in our children’s and teenag-

ers’ categories, so, please, get those cameras out. The winners of each age group/section will receive a small finan-

cial prize.

Our categories are:

1

.

Black and White 2. Heritage 3. Speed

Entry forms are on the Parish Council page of the June Roundabout and can also be obtained from John Chase, our

Clerk, at the Village Hall.

Tim Walker

—many thanks to Tim Walker, who recently resigned as a councillor, for all his efforts, particularly re-

lating to footpaths. We will miss you a great deal!

Housing in Buckden

Buckden Parish Council recently recommended refusal of the planning application to build 180 houses off Lucks

Lane. We opposed this application on many grounds and residents may read our submission on the HDC website.

However, we are perennially aware that we need to keep abreast of housing needs in our community and are cur-

rently working with ACRE to carry out a review of housing needs in Buckden, Diddington and Stirtloe. Residents

will be receiving a questionnaire over the next few months and we would be grateful if all could complete it.
