Village News

Bookings

October is another busy month and includes the annual

Crystal Blues Dancing Weekend. This takes place from Fri-

day 25

th

October to Sunday 27

th

October. This event is al-

ways very well attended so the car park will be busy.

Cycling on the paths around the Valley

Another request to cyclists, both young and old, to be aware

and respectful of pedestrians on the narrow paths around

the Valley. The Trust politely requests that cyclists dis-

mount when they see a pedestrian.

Buckden Village Festival – festival organiser

The Trust is looking for someone to take over the running of

the Village Festival. This year, this person would act as dep-

uty and then lead the 2021 Festival. If you would like to

create a fun weekend for the village and at the same time

help raise funds to improve the facilities within the village,

then the Village Hall Trust would love to hear from you. If

you, or anyone you know, is interested, please email Jo at

admin@buckdenvillagehall.co.uk

Don’t forget that as residents of Buckden you all receive

discounted rates on Hall hire. Please call or email me if

Buckden Neighbourhood Watch

Recognise the signs of scams

Would you be able to recognise if someone in your street had

fallen victim to a scam? Criminals often target the most vul-

nerable people in our communities. Neighbourhood Watch

has become a Friends Against Scams partner and is promoting

the anti-scam message.

Learn how to recognise the signs of scams and how to combat

them by taking the on-line awareness session here (20

minutes):

www.FriendsAgainstScams.org.uk/elearning

Together we can take a stand against scams.

Talk about scams

Scam victims often feel shame and embarrassment, but you

have the power to change this. The more people talk about

scams the more we can take away the stigma that surrounds

them.

Beware a new scam

Cambridgeshire Police are warning the public to be aware of

an International Postcode Scam in which people are being

asked to give their bank details. You will receive a letter ex-

plaining how to collect winnings from a competition or lottery

and saying that they need your bank details.

The letter claims it is the biggest lottery ever played in the

world which is changing the lives of millions of people

and claims to be from Melbourne, Australia.

BUCKDEN WI

At our September meeting the ladies

enjoyed a talk,

Aware, Alert, and Alive

by Jeanette Moser. Personal Safety was

the theme of the talk with Jeanette who

shared her tips and demonstrated tech-

niques to make us Aware, Alert, and

Alive! A lively and passionate lady in her 80th year, Jeanette

was accompanied by her husband Alan who along with volun-

teers from the members helped her during her talk to actively

illustrate moves to defend oneself if the need ever arose.

Drawing on experiences from her childhood and her later ser-

vice in the South African and the then Rhodesian Police forces.

which was uncommon at the time for a female to undertake,

Jeanette related incidences from her extraordinary career,

through community policing to expanding her skills as a trainer

while part of Special Branch. An enthusiastic, straight talking

women Jeanette provided an animated dialogue enjoyed with

and by all present.

Some tips from Jeanette:

Do not get involved with situations as you want to stay

alive and be safe.

Find out about the country you may be visiting.

Say “NO STOP” to someone who may be attacking you.

Do not run if someone is following you, turn and say

“Are you following me?”

At the next Meeting Tuesday 1st October 7:30pm in the Mil-

lard Suite at the Village Hall, our speaker will be Angela Deavel

talking about chemical-free Living with natural products.

The competition is – An Acrostic poem on the word ‘

natural’

We warmly welcome visitors and new members to our

meetings.
