Buckden Roundabout

March 2018

February has been a busy month. We have made sand-

wiches with ham and cheese kindly donated by Jerome

at One Stop, held a sponsored pancake flip, celebrated

Chinese New Year with lots of craft activities and Chi-

nese food, and made cards for those we love for Valen-

tine

s Day! We

ve also continued our trip through the

alphabet with d, e and f. With so much going on, we all

enjoyed a well-earned break over half-term.

As March begins, it

s time to start thinking about East-

er and Holi, and we have lots of activities planned for

the children. It

s also World Book Day on 1

st

March,

and we will be inviting parents into Preschool to read

stories to the children.

Although Christmas seems a long time ago, we have a

big Christmas thank you to say to Emily Jane of The

Flower Boutique in Brampton. She supplied the Christ-

mas tree for St Mary

s Church and by Christmas, it was

decorated with many beautiful baubles. Not only were

they beautiful, but the baubles were also sponsored by

individuals and businesses who wrote a personal mes-

sage on the ribbons. Emily Jane

s inspired and heart-

warming fundraising idea raised money for two good

causes: the Church restoration fund and Preschool. We

were touched by the gesture and so grateful to Emily

Jane and everyone who sponsored a bauble, raising an

amazing

£

375 for us. The money will go towards new

equipment for creative play for our children.

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF

ENGLAND SCHOOL

(Primary Academy Trust)

February 2018

February is always one of our quieter months. The chil-

dren have been working hard, many of them preparing

for their tests in the summer term.

We had one major event this half term - the children in

Key Stage 2 took part in ‘Aspirations Day’. We invited

parents, friends and volunteers to come to school to talk

to the children about a wide range of career opportuni-

ties open to them in the future.

Our volunteers came into school with tools, vehicles, uni-

forms and photographs and had interactive sessions with

groups of children. We have members of the services -

army, air force and navy, members of the NHS, software

engineers, storytellers, farmer, forensic officer and even a

magician.

The baby lamb bought in by our farmer proved to be a

very popular member of the school community on the

day!! This was a really exciting and interactive day for

everyone involved.

The children all learned so much about a wide range of

opportunities available to them. Thank you to all the vol-

unteers who came into school. We hope you enjoyed the

day as much as the children.

Our school kitchen has a vacancy for a catering assistant

to work with Mrs Bigg and her team preparing and serv-

ing school meals. The hours would be from 12.00 mid-

day to 2.00 pm. Please contact the school office – 01480

810241 - for more details.

School & Pre-school

Buckden Tots

We are a preschool group for children and their parents, grandparents or carers. We meet on Wednesday

mornings from 9.30am until 11.00am in The Methodist Hall in Buckden during Term Time.

All are welcome to our self-funding group. We support our children as they explore different activities and

enjoy drinks and snack whilst we chat.

In order to continue this valued facility we need volunteers.

This could include help with the refreshments, or the preparation for each session. It does not necessarily

need to be a weekly commitment as volunteers could operate a rota system.
