5 Buckden Roundabout September 2024 From your District Councillor Announcement: Transition to Independent Councillor Dear Residents, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to in- form you of an important change in my role as your Dis- trict Councillor. After much consideration, I have decid- ed to step down from my position as a Liberal District Councillor and will now serve as your Independent Dis- trict Councillor as part of the Cambs Independent Group. As many of you know, my professional background is in risk management. This expertise has driven me to try to address critical issues affecting the independence and operation of the Audit and Risk functions at HDC. Unfor- tunately, these necessary actions have made it increas- ingly challenging for me to operate within the con- straints of a party system where party priorities often take precedence over essential governance matters. Risk management and auditing are crucial components of effective governance for district councils. These func- tions ensure that potential risks are identified, assessed, and mitigated before they can impact the community. By proactively managing risks, councils can safeguard public resources, enhance service delivery, and maintain public trust. My commitment to transparency, accountability, and the well - being of our community remains unwavering. By transitioning to being Independent Councillor, I be- lieve I can more effectively advocate for the interests of our residents without the limitations imposed by party politics.
