The photo was taken by Alec MacAndrew. We are looking for more photos and paintings of any kind that we could use as a front cover. We especially need photos and paintings of autumn scenes, and of events in the village. We should be grateful for photos (or even paintings!) of the coro- nation celebrations in the village. Please note that photos should ideally be in portrait format and should be a minimum of 2400 x 1700 pixels. More is better! First up, we are introducing a new regular feature, a kids ’ page with games, puzzles and jokes for all ages on page 12. We hope to publish a kids ’ page every two to three months. The Buckden History Society Chairman, Richard Storey, contin- ues his series of interesting local historical articles. This month he writes about Farm Hall, the mid 18th century mansion in Godmanchester, used by the Secret Intelligence Service dur- ing the Second World War. After the war, several of Germa- ny ’ s top physicists, including world famous Nobel prize win- ners who had links to the German atomic programme were held there for a while. Although I am a physicist, I had no idea that Werner Heisenberg, one of the fathers of Quantum Me- chanics, and other top German physicists, were detained lo- cally after the war. Check it out on page 11. On page 21 we have an article about our local waterways, the River Ouse, the River Nene and the River Orwell and their con- nection to the wider canal and waterway network. Richard Noble also writes about the Waterways Chaplaincy which serves the community of boaters who live and holiday on the network. Finally, check out pages 14 to 16 for colour photos of Buck- fest, which was excellent again, and, thankfully, dry this year. There are also links for you to donate directly to the deserving charities which were supported by this year ’ s Buckfest. Please remember to visit the Roundabout website. As well as every edition from 2013 onwards available to see, there are often articles there that we could not fit into the print edition, as well as information that arrives during the month.
