18 Buckden Roundabout September 2024 School BUCKDEN CHURCH OF ENGLAND PRIMARY ACADEMY July 2024 This article was written towards the end of the term before the summer holidays, but missed the August edition. In June our wonderful PTA arranged for Circus Pazaz to come to Buckden, the circus performed two sell out shows to the children and their families. The following day all the children got to experience a circus workshop in the big top, and were super excited to learn some new circus skills. The PTA raised a brilliant £1630 to help fund equipment for the school. A big thank to everyone that took part. Towards the end of June, we had a fantastic Sports Day, par- ents were invited to watch their children take part in their track events during the school day. We were very lucky with the weather and the new gazebos in our four house colours that were donated by our fabulous PTA, help shade the chil- dren from the sun. All the children tried their very best and it was lovely to see everyone supporting each other, you may have heard the cheering around the village! We have just finished Transition week for the children, where- by our Year 6s went off to experience their first taste of sec- ondary school and in contrast we welcomed our new parents and new Reception children for September with morning taster sessions. The rest of the school all relocated to their new class- rooms and everyone is looking forward to joining their new class in September. With the Year 6s preparing to leave Primary school very soon they have been very busy this term. They organised a very suc- cessful Enterprise afternoon in the playground, whereby the whole school got to take part in games/face painting and quiz- zes. The year 6s raised over £400 and this will be split between two of their chosen charities. Towards the end of term, the Year 6s have also been very busy rehearsing and performing their production of the ‘ Wizard of Oz ’ which they performed in front of parents and family over two evenings and two afternoons. Once again, we held our Leavers ’ Assembly at St Mary's Church on the last Monday of term for the whole school and our Year 6 parents were invited to a special assembly at the school on the Tuesday morning. We have to say huge congratulations to one of our Year 6 stu- dents – Iris, who took on the challenge of running one mile every hour for a total of 24 hours. She had lots of support from fellow students, with the whole school cheering her on for her last mile of the challenge. Iris has raised nearly £2500 to date in mid - July—well done Iris! We would also like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to those members of staff that are moving on. They have contributed significantly during their time at Buckden and we will always be thankful for the impact that they have had on the children during their time at our school. They will be missed and we wish them every success in their new endeav- ours. We are also welcoming some new members of staff in September and we wish them good luck in joining the Buckden team. Come the Autumn term we will be looking for a new Site Man- ager to replace our Mr Skelton who will be retiring in Decem- ber. So, if you or anyone you know would be interested in the role, please express your interest by emailing office@bpa.act - academytrust.org so that we can send you further details in September. We wish everyone a safe and happy summer holiday and we look forward to seeing everyone on the first day of term on Thursday 5 th September. Buckden Learning Group The French Revolution The coming of the French Revolution in 1789 took Europe by surprise and no - one could predict the outcome. The Declaration of the Rights of Man seemed to issue in a new era of liberty and equality. But just over four years later the king had been executed, republican France was at war with many of its neighbours and Terror had been declared 'the order of the day'. These events were to transform the history of Europe. Tutor: Ann Stott Dates: 5 sessions. 24 th September 2024 to 22 nd October 2024. An important time for farmers but it should be just as important for all of us as we each reap the benefit of the work that is done. There is to be a celebration of the harvest at Perry Bap- tist Church on Sunday 22 nd September at 10.30am. This is an annual event to which all are invited to attend as we give thanks for all that has been provided. The dis- play of food on the day will later be donated to the Food Bank, so if any wish to make a donation in this way then can you make it non perishable food that the Food Bank can use.
