This was run in Buckden Village Hall with a popular local tutor. This was a new course that had been developed with the group ’ s encouragement. 37 members learnt a lot about the situa- tion in Germany at the beginning of the twentieth century; and gained an insight into Hitler ’ s char- acter and motivation. Many commented after the course that they had a better understanding of what made Hitler ‘ tick ’ and how this contributed to the outbreak and events of World War II. This was followed at the end of July with a single session for group members about some of the female ‘ pirates ’ through the ages. This was an opportunity to try a new tutor. We hope to see her again for an entire course. We have commenced enrolment for our next face - to - face course which starts at the end of September at Buckden Tow- ers. This is a 10 week course entitled ‘ Gilbert and Sullivan – Their Times and Tunes ’ (see advert on page 10 for details). No prior knowledge of music is required. The course sets the oper- as in their historical context and links them to contemporary personalities and events. This will be followed by further courses, mostly face - to - face, that have been planned through to Christmas 2024. We hope soon to plan our offerings for 2025. As usual, our courses have been interspersed with some indi- vidual discussion sessions on Zoom; this is expected to contin- ue. Note that pre - registration for our courses is essential to avoid disappointment. help to keep the Valley looking tidy. As we enjoy the benefits of all that this provides, perhaps enjoying our favourite meals, how often do we take the time to express our thanks for such a provision? There are many who have played a part in the process, but ultimately I hope we never forget there is a God who has been behind it all. On Sunday 24th September we can all join to- gether to do just that. That is the day in which we will hold a Harvest thanks giving Service at Perry Baptist Church . This will be held at 10.30am , and all are welcome to join us at this time. Andy Gray 1970 - 2023 Following the sudden death of our beloved son and brother, the Gray family have been over- whelmed and so grateful for the love and support friends in the village have shown them. We would like to thank each and every one of you. Ken, Patsy, Duncan & Josie
