21 Buckden Roundabout September 2023 Village News September 2023 Summer Reading Challenge Our Reading Challenge this year was amazing! Well done to all those who completed it. It has been great to see so many en- thusiastic young readers, all keen to talk about the books they enjoyed over the summer holidays. We have handed out many certificates and environmentally happy medals made from wood with recycled ribbon decorations, and our finishers ’ pho- tos look fabulous on their display board – drop in to take a look if you haven ’ t already. And to top it all, some great makes at our weekly drop in craft sessions. If you haven ’ t quite finished off your challenge, there is still time – just pop in once you ’ ve read your final books. Terrific Tuesdays Rhymetime is back for the new term starting on Tuesday 12 September at 2.15pm . We are really looking forward to seeing returning regulars and hopefully some new faces too. Rhymetime is perfect for pre - school aged children, including babies. Rhyming language and songs really help with speech and early reading development. Our Tuesday morning Duplo and games for the under 5s con- tinues between 10am and 1pm in our children ’ s library with the usual selection jigsaws, Orchard games, building blocks and soft toys. No need to book for either of these sessions - just drop in to meet up with other families. Children need to be accompanied by an adult. Super Saturdays Our popular Saturday morning sessions continue this month. Our Lego club will run on 9 and 23 September – open to all ages. Family Board Games will be available on 2, 16 and 30 September – suitable for aged 4 and over. Just turn up if you ’ d like to take part - children under 8 do need to be accompanied by an adult please. There is no charge for these sessions but it helps us to keep them going if you could drop a small donation in the box. Knit Lit Our Knit Lit book club continues to meet every other Friday from 7pm until 9pm . The next meetings are on 8 and 22 Sep- tember . New knitters welcome – just turn up! P3 information drop - ins for the over 65s Caroline is back this month and ready to offer her usual helpful advice and support on how to continue to live well and inde- pendently. She will be at the library on Tuesday 26 September between 10am and 12 noon . Just drop in, no need to book an appointment. THE COMMUNITY CAFÉ is our hub. Just drop in to St Mary ’ s Church Buckden 2.30 - 4pm on the 2 nd Wednesday of every month. Please come and join us, whether you are in need of support, would like to volunteer or just fancy a cuppa, chat and home- made cake. Need someone to talk to? - it is not easy to ask for help, but why struggle when there are people happy to listen and to help? When we keep things to ourselves and struggle on, things can feel overwhelming and a little bit of help can make all the difference. Come and speak to us at the Community Café or email friendsindeed@stmarysbuckden.org.uk . We can arrange either home visits or a friendly voice and ear over the phone. This is a free service and can be either a one - off chat or regular chats. Need a lift to an appointment? Our team of volunteer driv- ers are able to provide transport for vaccination / hospital / dental appointments etc when family, friends or public transport are not an option. There are fixed fees for this ser- vice. Please do give us 48 hours notice if possible; 24 hours notice as a minimum and we shall do our best to meet your needs. DO YOU FANCY BAKING A CAKE FOR THE CAFE? We have a rota of people who bake for the Community Café.
