Flooding The area in the High Street to the south of Taylor ’ s Lane was affected by the heavy rainfall on Friday 30 th July. Yet again the drains were unable to cope with the amount of water. BPC Chair spoke to Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC) about the various issues and received the following update: ‘ Contractors have been commissioned to examine the Taylors Lane water course and beyond. The results of that investigation are not yet known but will be available soon. Depending on the results of that the responsible authorities will then decide on follow up action. ’ Hunts End The work is nearly completed. The paths are complet- ed, the wildflower planting done. A window in the bus shelter will be installed soon. Bulbs will be planted in the Autumn. The village sign is looking very worn and will be renovated in the near future by the person who cre- ated it for the millennium celebrations. Licensing of new Priest We would like to extend a warm welcome to David Sheppard our new Priest. The Great Big Green Week This is a national event taking place from 18 th to 26 th September. Buckden will be participating. Further infor- mation is included in this edition of the magazine. Silver Street Development The development remains ‘ on hold ’ whilst investigations into potential surface water flooding are undertaken. We continue to raise concerns with CCC about the im- pact of the development on local traffic and access to the site. Road Safety Focus Group We are holding a Road Safety and Sustainable Transport focus group on 27 th September at 7.30pm to consider all the issues currently facing the village with attendees from CCC, Highways England etc. Please join us. Meeting with Anglia Water and Cambridgeshire County Council Representatives from BPC met with Anglia Water (AWA) and the CCC Flood Agency to discuss issues of concern in relation to sewerage, ground water and surface water. The follow actions were agreed: • AWA will carry out further investigative work on their infra structure in Silver St and other areas of the village. BPC have asked that they share this with the Council. • AWA will provide BPC with details of the sewer- age issues raised in relation to St Hugh ’ s Road • AWA provide details of pollution and potential pollution events reported in Buckden in the last 5 years. • An AWA representative will meet with BPC and the Silver Street HDC Planning Officer to further discuss the sewerage connection of the proposed development in Silver Street. • CCC will write to HDC Planning to raise flood and sewage related concerns in relation to future de- velopment in Buckden. • A further meeting will be held in relation to the attenuation basins in Lucks Lane. Council Meetings The next Council meeting will be at 7.30pm on Tuesday 14th September. The meeting will include a 15 - minute open forum. If you want to speak at the meeting, please let us know what you want to say, by contacting the Par- ish Clerk. You will get a three - minute slot. The Council Planning Committee will also meet if re- quired. Agendas for these meetings are posted on the Parish notice boards no later than the Saturday preced- ing the meeting.
