6 Buckden Roundabout October 2023 St Hugh ’ s, Methodist & Baptist Churches Roman Catholic Parish of St Hugh of Lincoln, High Street, Buckden Telephone: 01480 810344 The Catholic Parish of St Hugh of Lincoln is located at Buckden Towers which is also the home of the Claret Centre, a retreat and conference Centre that is also in the pastoral care of the Claretian Missionaries. The Parish Priest and Director of the Claret Centre is Fr Paul Smyth CMF. Assisting him are Fr Jude Arinze CMF and Fr Jim Kennedy CMF The Claretian Community has morning prayer at 8am each morning and evening Prayer at 5.45pm in the Claret Chapel situated in the Under Croft, at the back of the church build- ings. Anyone who wishes to join them is most welcome. Presently the service times are: Weekdays Masses: Monday to Friday at 9:30 am Saturday Vigil Mass: 6:00 pm Sunday Masses: 8:00 am and 10:00 am. Confession available each Saturday 5.15pm - 5:45pm. ACTIVITIES IN OCTOBER Oct. 7 th A quiet day at the Towers 10am until 4pm You are invited to come along and meet other people for a day of prayer, reflection, and conversation. Bring a packed lunch, refreshments will be available. Suggested donation of £5 - 10 to cover costs and support the upkeep of the towers. All wel- come. October 24 th is the feast of St Anthony Claret the founder of the Claretian Missionaries. There will be a special Mass at 7pm followed by some light refreshments. All are welcome. If there are any villagers interested in knowing more about the Catholic Church or newcomers to the village who are Catho- lics, please let Fr Paul know their contact details. Fr Paul Smyth cmf has recently returned to Buckden Towers after 15 years away during which time he served on the Rome based leadership team of the Claretian Mis- sionaries, a congregation of more than 3000 priests and brothers working in more than 60 countries around the world. Over the years he has served in Guatemala, Buckden and Hayes. He has also collaborated with other religious in Solidarity with South Sudan and the Conference of Religious of England and Wales. He also is and experienced facilitator and retreat giver. All of this expe- rience will be brought to the work here at the Towers as he takes up his responsibilities not just for the Parish of St Hugh but also for his responsibilities as Director of the Claret Centre. Fr Paul has recently arrived and is in the process of reviewing the activities and timetable for services. He is aware that the website and information about Buckden Towers, and the Par- ish needs attention and is looking at updating material.
