Book Exchange For the last two years Alison and Rob Gardiner have been looking after the Book Exchange in the old telephone box in the High Street, for which we are very grateful. They would like to pass this on to another volunteer. It needs monitoring on a regular basis as large numbers of books are often left there which should be taken to charity shops. If you can take over this very rewarding and much - used ser- vice, please contact the Parish Clerk at clerk@buckdenpc.oerg.uk Repair Cafe A highly successful Repair Café took place on 5 th October at Buckden Village Hall. Our thanks to Councillor Madeline Fra- ser who organised it and to all the volunteers who helped, either as repairers or providing refreshments. Repairers looked at 50 items and had a 73% success rate. Not only that, but it is also estimated that it saved 91kg of waste and 685kg of CO2 emissions. Further Repair Cafes will be advertised in “ Roundabout ”. Christmas Lights and Market This year the Christmas Lights switch - on in the High Street will be on Sunday 24 th November when there will also be a Street Market. This is a collaboration between Buckden Parish Coun- cil and Buckden Community Events (BCE) with the Parish Council funding the road closure and providing the lights and the BCE team organising the Market. We would also like to thank the BCE team for the Village Fete at Buckden Towers in August and September ’ s Scarecrow Fes- tival. Handyman/Groundsman Mark Seagar, who has worked for the Parish Council on a tem- porary basis for the past few weeks has now joined us as a permanent member of staff. Bus Services Since 1986, bus services in England have been deregulated with most services run by private operators who have control over their routes, timetables, fares and frequency of buses. The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority is consulting over whether to have an enhanced legally binding partnership with the private bus operators or a franchising model where the Combined Authority would plan the ser- vices, and the private operators would bid to run them. The consultation will run until 20 th November and details can be found on cpca - yourvoice.co.uk. District Local Plan “ Call for Sites ” In the last edition of “ Roundabout ” we reported on the proposed meeting with our neighbouring Parish Councils to discuss the ” Call for Sites ” which is one of the early stages in the development of the District Local Plan. This meeting will have been held by the time you read this, but you still have time to comment. Unfortunately, the information we provided regarding com- ments was inaccurate. 6 sites in Buckden and 1 in Diddington have been identified/ put forward in the desktop review and more information can be found at https://consult.huntingdonshire.gov.uk/kse/ event/38140 The consultation will finish on 27 th November. Flooding For the fourth time in 12 months the Great Ouse has flooded, isolating properties for a week. One positive outcome has been the establishment of a Flood Support WhatsApp Group for residents in Buckden Marina, Carters Boatyard/Millside Marina and the Old Flour Mills. Planning The Parish Council has been consulted on proposals for a 766 hectare solar panel site running Westwards from Hail Weston. We have objected as it is on good quality agricultural land. We have also complained to Cambridgeshire County Council about the noxious smells emanating from the Landfill site on the Buckden Road at Brampton. Council Meetings The next Council meeting will be at 7.00 pm on Tuesday 12 th November. The meeting will include a 15 - minute open forum. If you want to speak at the meeting, please let us know what you want to say, by contacting the Parish Clerk. You will get a three - minute slot. The Council Planning Committee will also meet if required. Agendas for both meetings are posted on the Parish notice boards no later than the Saturday preceding the meeting. Office opening hours The Clerk operates flexibly between the office and home. If you wish to meet with the Clerk, please call 07483 033357.
