As you read this edition of the Buckden Roundabout we are in the midst of a month of reminders. "Remember, remember the 5 th of November" will be one item that will come to our mind, perhaps. Perhaps another one would be Remembrance Day or Remembrance Sunday. Each of these events may well bring to us special memories. One particular year what struck me was the absence of bonfires and fireworks on Guy Fawkes night. At the time, I lived in a place where there were, at one point, up to 100 terrorist incidents in a day. It was no wonder that the authorities banned the sale of such items, lest a young soldier on guard duty should react in a manner that would have caused a tragedy in a young persons life. There was far too much "gun powder plots" that were part of the reality of the day. Yet, what is more important for me is that I can look back on life and take in the positive memories of life. Paul once wrote "I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now." (Phillipians 1 verse 3 to 5). As we bring those memories to mind may we share in such joy as we pray for those who have stood beside us in our times of need. Sharing with you in the love of our Lord, as I bring each of you to mind in my times of prayer. Blessings to all of you, Jon Magee BUCKDEN BRANCH - ROYAL BRITISH LEGION Armistice Day this year is Saturday 11 th November, the day before Remembrance Sunday; next year it will skip to the day after Remembrance Sunday (that ’ s what a leap year does for you!). There will be the usual short ceremony at the War Me- morial starting a little earlier than the usual 10.45 a.m. This year, we will have some new “ guests ”; as you will see from the Parish Council notes, three “ Tommy ” silhouettes have been purchased; two “ Tommies ” and one “ Woman at War ”; they will remain by the War Memorial until after Remembrance Sunday and then be moved to their more permanent home on the village green. So do come along to meet them if you can. On Remembrance Sunday, there will be the usual multi de- nominational service at St. Mary ’ s Parish Church, hopefully with all the village ’ s uniformed organisations in full attend- ance, followed by the ceremony at the War Memorial and I hope to see as many of you there as possible. As always, it would be very nice to have more of our British Legion mem- bers on parade. We would also welcome any serving or ex members of the armed forces (regular or reserve) to parade with us even if you are not members and, yes, I will try to re- cruit you! If you are able to parade, it would be very helpful if you can let me know by Friday 10 th November so that I can make sure that enough pews are reserved. Last year our poppy collectors once again excelled themselves and between you all and HMP Littlehey we collected a massive £5,958 for the Poppy Appeal. This was a magnificent effort, but we are never satisfied! This year, our collectors will be out again in force, ably organised, as always, by Tim and Ceci Walk- er. Please give as generously as you can to a good and still much needed cause. Peter Mount. Chairman.
