11 Buckden Roundabout May 2024 Village News Barnack Hills and Holes The Huntingdonshire Local Group of the Wildlife Trust invites you to come along for an evening walk on Tuesday June 4 th at Barnack Hills and Holes, near Stamford. Barnack was once a medieval limestone quarry, but now sup- ports a profusion of wild flowers and butterflies. This site is managed by the Langdyke Trust and is currently designated as a Special Area for Conservation to protect its orchid rich lime- stone grassland. Eight species of orchid have been reported here, some of which we will see, along with many other flow- ers such as rockrose, wild thyme, quaking grass and ox eye daisy. We can also look forward to seeing many butterflies, such as small heath, skippers and blues. Being an old quarry, the paths are very uneven and often steep. The walk will be led by Ross Edgar and/or Catherine Weightman of Natural England and we hope to have a wonder- ful evening there. Please meet at 7pm in the car park on Wittering Road, GR TF074048, what3words collect.riverbed.seaweed. Everyone is most welcome to attend. There is no charge, but donations are welcome.
