May 2023
18 Buckden Roundabout May 2023 Sport Buckden Junior Football Club After a very wet March, it has been great to get back to playing these last few weeks! Here at BJFC we are continually investing in not just equipment, but also our facilities. Most recently we have made steps to secure funding to improve the drainage on the field, which should leave a legacy for many years to come. Tea Bar Filming We were absolutely honoured last month to have Lioness Jill Scott MBE and Footballing legend Chris Kamara MBE to visit our pitches as part of some promotional work with Howdens who provided our brand new tea bar. They met several of our players as well as lots of other mem- bers of the village, posing for photos and signing lots of foot- balls and shirts! Keep an eye on our social media, we will be sharing the finished video very soon! New Players We do have some teams that are looking for new members to join their squads for the coming season – if you know anyone that may be interested in joining one of our teams, contact bjfcchairman@hotmail.com for space availability! End of Season Presentation Event After the success of last year ’ s end of season presentation event, we will again be planning an outdoor celebration for all our teams and their families. Please add Sunday 4 th June to your diaries – we will again be having food and drink vans, games and the Village Club will be open – aswell as medals/trophies for all our members. We would love you to join us to celebrate another wonderful season at BJFC. Inclusive Development Team These sessions are for junior Para Superstars with Disabilities and additional needs that would like to join in and play football to develop their skills in a positive and friendly environment. Sessions cost £1.50 per week, our guide age range is 4, to reception age but this is very much down to the individual child so if you think you have a child that is ready to join us – please contact us, you will find us on Facebook – Buckden Dribblers! For details on either of these roles, email buckdenpreschool- committee@gmail.com . Our Acting Chair, Helen, or our Treas- urer, Debby, will get back to you with more information. Thank You … To Nisa for their continuing donation of our snack time food in these difficult times. They generously supply fruit, veg, breadsticks, crumpets, cereals, fruit loaf etc, and special snacks for celebrations, such as hot cross buns for Easter! They also hold a loose change collec- tion pot for us. To everyone who has donated clothes, games and other items. We don ’ t have any more room for donations at present, but we are very grateful for those we have received! There ’ s just space to tell you that the children finished the spring term exploring textures and water, and getting exercise outdoors in the improving weather on our bikes, scooters and scuttlebugs. And, of course, there were lots of Easter and egg - related activities, including a trip to St Mary ’ s! As usual, Sally at Buckden Library gathered a great selection of Easter books to share with the children. Thank you, Sally. Since the commencement of the restoration of the Outer Gatehouse, back in Jan 2021, including the new path in the Knot Garden, and the work currently in progress in the Friends Refectory, I can report that FoBT will have contribut- ed within the last few years close on £40,000 towards the conservation and improvement of the historic buildings of Buckden Towers. This is something of which we can all feel very proud. So there we are. A lot going on, and much to be proud of. And much more to be done. I ’ m sure that we all want to see our historic buildings conserved for the benefit of future gen- erations. But it won ’ t happen unless we make it happen. So please support us in any way you can. We cannot exist without our members ’ support and the sup- port of our other volunteers. Please remember to renew your membership subscription when the time comes, and please try to introduce new members. The cost is very mod- est. And please, existing members, do consider joining the committee, or helping as a volunteer, in any way you can. New blood is always welcome. And finally, my sincere thanks and appreciation for all the great work undertaken by the members of the Committee, and by all those other volunteers, particularly the guides and the gardeners, who give so much of their time in supporting our fund - raising activities and in maintaining and improving our beautiful Knot Garden. - Keith Lawrence Chairman FoBT FOBT Annual Report (Continued from page 5)
