As I write, the sun is shin- ing, the weather is getting warmer, the blackthorn is blossom- ing in the hedges and all the trees are coming into leaf. I love this time of year when every tree and bush shows off a differ- ent fresh shade of green. We are lucky to live so close to the countryside and have so much natural beauty and open space to enjoy. One of the delights of the countryside and road verges are wild primroses and cowslips in full bloom. We have an article this month on page 7, about the primula family, by Greg Belcher, the Senior Reserves Officer at the Wildlife Trust at Grafham Water. Learn all about primroses, cowslips and ox- lips. We continue Terry Hayward ’ s journey through the history of how the village has been managed in the past, concentrating this month on the period covering the two World Wars, dip- ping into the archives. In some respects things were very dif- ferent and in others, nothing seems to change with the Parish Council in 1948 getting hot under the collar about the poor bus service to Huntingdon and the poor mail delivery. It ’ s on page 14. Keeping with the theme of the second World War, Mike Mur- ray - Smith tells the story of the Cambridgeshire Regiment ’ s involvement in the fall of Singapore on page 11. Don ’ t forget to vote in the upcoming referendum on the Buck- den Neighbourhood Plan on 6th May, when you can also vote for our County Councillor, the Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, and our Police and Crime Commissioner.
