June 2024

14 Buckden Roundabout June 2024 School BUCKDEN CHURCH OF ENGLAND PRIMARY ACADEMY May 2024 The start of the summer term has got off to a flying start and having just come back from the May Day bank holiday it feels that May half term will soon be upon us. Fingers crossed that the lovely weather we are experiencing at the moment con- tinues as the children really do enjoy getting outside for outdoor learning activities. We are very proud to announce that Buckden Primary Academy has achieved the Silver Accreditation for Rights Respecting Schools Award from Unicef. A very big thank you to all our staff and children for their hard work with implementing activities with passion and inspiration. After our assessment we have been encouraged to go for gold in the next 18 months as we are already hitting many of the targets needed. Well done to everyone who contributed. We welcomed local photographers ID Image Develop- ment from St Neots into school in May to take our yearly class photos. The weather was fabulous for the day and all the children were very well behaved, and we hope they had fun too! We look forward to seeing the photos. Our reception children recently enjoyed a fantastic day at Paxton Pits where the children had the opportunity to pond dip, hunt for bugs, bird watching and explore the plants and trees surrounding the Ouse valley. Children, staff and parent helpers had a lovely day making wonder- ful memories with lots of learning in a fun environment. Our Reception children also had a very exciting afternoon one day when the fire brigade joined us. They got to board the engine, see the equipment and uniform as well as hear about all the skills needed to become a fire fight- er. They had lots of fun so thank you to the Fire Service for coming to visit us. At the time of writing our Year 2 and Year 6 children are working hard on taking their National Curriculum Assess- ments (also known as SATs). All the children involved are doing their absolute best and we are very proud with how the children are taking all the tests in their stride. Especially our Year 6 students who had to conform to strict exam conditions, they will be rewarded with ice lollies and an afternoon of fun games on the playing field at the end of the week. After the Easter holidays our Year 4’ s went on their annu- al residential trip to Grafham Water for a fabulous 2 night – 3 day stay. Children exhausted themselves with some exciting experiences and took part in activities such as canoeing on the reservoir, biking along the water front, indoor climbing, archery, bush craft, high ropes and ori- enteering. Staff and children came away with lots of hap- py memories, along with a suitcase full of muddy clothes. At the end of April we put a plea out to parents for dona- tions for The Godmanchester Food bank as supplies were running very low. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone for their amazing efforts and for their recent donations to the foodbank. The donations were collected by Godmanchester Foodbank and they were very grateful for our contribution. We are very pleased to announce that from the first week in April until the end of June, shoppers will be able to vote for Buckden Primary to receive funding from Tesco to help build a bespoke nurture classroom, to sup- port many children across our school who may be experi- encing social, emotional and mental health needs. Voting via the instore blue tokens will be available in all the three St Neots Tesco stores - Tesco Extra, Loves Farm Express and Eaton Socon Express. So please tell your friends and family to get their blue token and vote for our new nature classroom!
