It ’ s that time of year when your garden will need some TLC, and not because it ’ s overgrown. Taking steps to protect your garden is a simple yet effective way to deter burglars. Here are some ideas on how you can protect your home by getting your fingers green this Spring! 1.Cut back shrubs and hedges to eliminate hiding spots for burglars. 2.Ensure the side gate to you garden is secure with function- ing locks. 3.Consider adding a lightweight trellis to fences and plant some prickly plants to make it harder for burglars to climb over. 4.Avoid leaving gardening tools on display and lock them away when they ’ re not being used. 5.Consider having gravel driveway and paths to make it hard- er for burglars to go undetected. 6.Register your tools on https://www.immobilise.com to help police trace them if they ’ re stolen. By taking these steps, you can help make your home a less appealing target for burglars. For more on how you can protect your garden https:// bit.ly/40Zov3C. SUCCESS FOR RESIDENTS AND POLICE There has been a decrease in catalytic converter theft thanks to members of the public reporting suspicious activity togeth- er with the swift reaction of local officers. The decrease follows significant work carried out by local po- licing teams with support from the police helicopter and the road policing unit to help intercept suspects. Police have carried out targeted days of action and weeks of patrols, visited scrap dealers and have launched dates for further free catalytic converter marking. WHAT NEXT? Organised crime groups have been disrupted by arresting and remanding individuals but there are other criminals who won ’ t be able to resist to steal such valuable metal. SO PLEASE REMAIN VIGILANT TAKE PREVENTATIVE MEASURES Vehicle owners are urged to look out for vehicles jacked up (especially in the middle of the vehicle) and listen out for the sound of metal being cut. There may be a vehicle nearby with the engine running and two or three people involved. DO NOT APPROACH THE PERPETRATORS - CALL 999 and pro- vide the vehicle number plate, make and model. Where possi- ble, also provide the make, model and registration number of your vehicle. Making Memories A free, friendly group for individuals, carers and families. We have contacted the curator and they can do it on Tuesday 30th May 30th at 2pm . There is a charge of £20 which goes towards the upkeep of the castle. We would self drive and offer people without transport a lift. Coffee or tea will be available afterwards at a charge of £3. If you are interested do email me at patking@writeme.com and if I get enough interest I will ask you for the £20 to secure your booking. All welcome even if you didn't come to the talk - Pat & Brian King
