For many life has been difficult and inconvenient, and for some there has been tragedy and great sorrow. Others have welcomed the change of pace, with life mostly less frenetic than we have become used to. But all of us have had to make big adjustments, physically, mentally and emotionally. For many of us living here in Buckden there has been a lot to be thankful for. The community has ‘ stepped up to the plate ’ in looking after others. I have heard many stories of folk who are happy that they are able to rely on neighbours and friends to collect shopping, prescriptions or looking in to check they ’ re ok. The numbers offering to help with the Buckden Volunteer Scheme being run by the Parish Council, Friends in Deed as well as St Mary ’ s also speaks of a community looking out for each other, as does the amount of food people in the village are donating to support the work of Godmanchester Foodbank. Many thanks on their behalf. The Christian faith is all about community. Jesus encourages us to follow his example by honouring God and at the same time honouring and caring for our neighbours, by which he meant anyone we come across who is in need. And its been great to see this sense of community over the past two months. I am writing this the day after the Prime Minister ’ s announcement to the effect that lockdown will only be eased gradually and conditional on the effects of the virus continu- ing to reduce. We will need God ’ s patience and endurance as the restrictions continue through the summer. At St Mary ’ s we have also been working to retain this sense of community by streaming our Sunday services on line via the St Mary ’ s Buckden Facebook page and also on Youtube via the St Mary ’ s Buckden channel. Do check them out. We have also been reaching out to children and young people in the village through our weekly letter and activity sheet. Please do email me at jes.salt@btinternet.com i f you would like to receive these. Meantime let ’ s continue to care and look out for each other. Best wishes Jes Rev Jes Salt, Priest in Charge, Buckden and the Offords Buckden bites Did you know …? Around 150 years ago, the Vineyards was a playing field. The men worked long hours and the women were mostly in ser- vice, so it was mostly used on Sundays. You could even get your hair cut there. From Buckden C.E.
