It is “ D Day ”. It was 80 years ago that many young men were prepared to go to Europe to begin the liberation of France. My own dad was among that number though after 80 years there may not be many of those men still surviving. My dad and mum were later to speak of soldiers camped all across the south of England preparing for an invasion that would ultimately lead to freedom for so many in Europe. Hope was on the horizon! In the spiritual realm we also face the spiritual battles of life. The battles can be just as ferocious as we can see in the earthly battles. At stake is a more important form of freedom. Our Lord came to give us such hope, freedom from the things that bind us and hope of life in abun- dance. We have also been given a protection by God in our battles, a protection that will enable us to look to the beauty of the abundant life that our Lord has on offer. Paul writes “ Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil ’ s schemes. ” (Ephesians 6 verse 11). He spoke of the full armour, nothing missed out, from the helmet of salvation down the the breast plate of righteousness, the sword of the spirit and the shield of faith. Even our feet to be shod with the gospel of peace. It is not enough to put on our favourite pieces of the armour and leaving us weak in other places, but put on the FULL armour of God. That's not all, Paul then reveals the secret weapon that we can know, prayer. With that communication with our Com- mander in Chief gives to us tremendous hope in our spir- itual battles of life. In Jesus comes our greatest hope. May you know new hope as we continue through this coming year, from your village Pastor Jon Magee Hebron April has once again seen the visit to Perry of singers with tremendous ability. On Friday 26 th April Perry Bap- tist church was packed full of people waiting to hear a singing trio called Hebron. Hebron is made up of Simon Elman, Chrissy Rogers, and not forgetting HELEN SHAPIRO. They each have a professional background which shone through in their singing but not forgetting that the advertising poster also said that the evening would be full of gospel singing with a Jewish flavour with ministry in word and song. The question that I have heard so often since says a lot about their feelings about the evenings. “ Who will be coming to Perry Baptist Church next? ” I will answer that question nearer the time, but in the meanwhile all in our community are welcome to come any time.
