Flood Advisory Group Cllr Allan Jones representing, the BPC Flood Group, recently attended the Alconbury Flood Resilience Event. The centre piece was the “ Flood Mobile ”, a trailer displaying multiple gadgets and fitments, from totally waterproof front doors, and automatically closing air bricks to toilet return blockers. Information was available on many issues including the gov- ernment scheme “ build back better ” after a flood. Representatives of the Environment Agency ’ s Flood Resilience team, including Tamsyn Ellway and Stamatia Christianou, CCC ’ s Senior Flood Risk Officer offered advice and guidance. Leaflets and information from the event are available from the BPC Flood Advisory Group, via the Clerk. Highways and Sustainable Transport Advisory Group It is good to see that the double yellow lines at Hunts End are now completed so the buses can get around to the stop more easily. Unfortunately, there have been several instances of vehicles selfishly ignoring the lines, particularly outside the NISA shop, making access for mobility scooters extremely difficult. The Speedwatch group are continuing to monitor speed around the village. Data from the speed monitoring cameras (MVAS units) showing the speed of all traffic is sent regularly to the Police. Despite the cameras we are still seeing some instances of very high speeds particularly on Mill Road. Representatives of the group met with our District and County Councillors, Martin Hassell and Ken Billington and two repre- sentatives from Cambs Council Highways to look at the state of roads, signs, and footpaths around the village. We are hopeful of better progress with repairs going forward. On 12 th June the A1 Safety group met with Allan Trille and Martin Fellows of National Highways, our District Councillor, Martin Hassell, MP Jonathan Djanogly and representatives from Southoe Parish Council and Thornhill Estates. The likely increase in traffic queueing at the Buckden Roundabout re- sulting from development, commencing later this year, at the Black Cat roundabout was discussed. Jonathan Djanogly was insistent that the impact on Buckden must now be looked at seriously. Councillors Caroline Underwood has resigned as Chair of the Council.
