17 Buckden Roundabout July 2023 Village News July 2023 Summer Reading Challenge 2023 It ’ s nearly summer holiday time so we ’ re thinking about this year ’ s Summer Reading Challenge. This year the theme is Ready, Set, Read! and we ’ ll be inviting children to sign up from Saturday 8 July . The Reading Challenge is aimed at kids up to the age of 11, and is a great way to encourage them to keep reading over the summer holidays. With a sticker reward chart, book marks, activity sheets and a very impressive certificate and medal for those who complete the reading, there ’ s lots to keep them motivated. Look out for special activities and events taking place over the summer at Buckden Library, which we will advertise on library windows and the local Facebook page. Terrific Tuesdays Our Tuesday morning Duplo and games for the under 5s con- tinues between 10am and 1pm in our children ’ s library. Rhymetime is every Tuesday at 2.15pm during term time. We will run sessions this month on 4 and 11 July before we take a break for the summer holidays. Rhymetime is perfect for pre - school aged children, including babies. Rhyming lan- guage and songs really help with speech and early reading de- velopment. No need to book for either of these activities - just drop in to meet up with other families. Children need to be accompanied by an adult. Sensational Saturdays Our popular Saturday morning Lego Club continues, this month on 15 and 29 July from 10 until 12.30 . Just turn up if you ’ d like to create – open to all ages. Every other Saturday join us for our Family Games and Puz- zles. For adults and children over 3, a selection of games and puzzles is available – or bring your own! For both activities, children under 12 do need to be accompa- nied by an adult. A suggested donation of 50p per person would be appreciated. Over 65s support drop in Caroline continues her monthly visits to the library, offering free information, advice and support for the over 65s and their families. The next visit is on 25 July from 10am until 12. No appoint- ment is needed, just pop in for help and guidance on how to continue to live independently. Knit Lit Our Knit Lit book club continues to meet every other Friday on 14 and 28 July from 7pm until 9pm . New knitters welcome – just turn up! Opening hours: Tuesday: 10am – 1pm, and 2pm – 5pm Thursday: 2 – 5pm Friday: 4 – 7pm Saturday: 10am – 1pm Village Hall, Burberry Road, Buckden Tel: 0345 045 5225 www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/library FRIENDS IN DEED There are times in our lives when we could all do with a little extra support or companionship whatever our age or circumstance.
