February 2022

21 Buckden Roundabout February 2022 Village News Bookings Update This month, we were delighted to have several corporate training bookings. Unfortunately, due to the current Covid situation they have recently postponed their bookings until later in the year. We have a local private party taking place as well as our regular hirers. Bookings and enquiries have gradually been increasing since Covid restrictions were lifted last July. The Hall is fully Covid secure. Pantomime Melodramatics were due to perform Rumpelstiltskin from 4 th to 6 th March. However, due to the current Covid situa- tion, they have reluctantly decided they should postpone the performances. They are now planning to run the show instead in July. I will confirm the dates as soon as I receive them. ***New Fitness Pilates Class*** We are delighted to welcome a new Fitness Pilates class at the Hall on Tuesday evenings at 6:30pm, starting on 8 th Feb- ruary. For more details of how to Get Fit with Vic please check out her Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ vickihartfree or email me. ***New Baby/Toddler Classes*** We have two new baby/toddler classes at the Hall: Piccolo ’ s Music Club Thursdays 10am – 11am in the Aragon Room. Piccolos Music Club is a long running toddler group. Fast paced, high energy, covering musical genres and dance from all over the world. A leader led group that entertains and educates through games, song, story and puppets. More information at www.piccolosmusicclub.co.uk Sweaty Mama ’ s Mondays 10am – 11am in the Lincoln Room. This is an exercise class for mamas and includes the little ones too so they get to bond, play and socialise! It ’ s a great concept. To find out more please go to www.sweatymama.com Please call or email me for any extra information on the above classes. The Valley It is lovely to see so many people out enjoying the Valley following its renovation. The Parish Council has very gener- ously bought dual purpose rubbish/dog waste bins for the Valley that will soon be delivered. Until these are installed, please continue to take your rubbish away with you and please don ’ t throw objects into the lake which blocks the weir at the south end of the lake and presents a danger to the waterfowl which are returning to the Valley. Has any- one spotted the kingfisher which visited during the au- tumn?! Could we please ask that people stick to the paths for now to allow the bulbs, plants and grass seedings to establish and flourish this spring? Under the trees by the main path, we have planted snowdrops (which are starting to come up), bluebells, winter aconites, wild tulips, cyclamen, daffo- dils and fritillary bulbs and the shoots need time to grow without being trampled. The plants will be stronger next spring, but this is their first year so please try to stay off the areas of turned soil. The grass seedings are starting to grow in most of the larger amenity areas, which is essential to stabilise the banks and prevent future erosion. Mountain bikes have been cutting across some of the banks and the slalom path which is dam- aging the soil. We are considering putting some small fenc- ing to protect the paths, but please don ’ t ride cycles down the slalom path. There is still work to be done in the Valley, and we are de- veloping a longer - term development and maintenance plan that will continue to enhance this lovely area. Treatment Room/Office Space in foyer For many years the room just off the main foyer in the Hall has been used as a Treatment Room and has been rented by people running their beauty businesses in there. It is now available to rent again so if anyone is looking for a space to run their nail/beauty business please contact us. The room can also be used as office space to hire. It ’ s a great opportunity to have your own private office space but not far from home! Please email me if you would like to view the room. Hall Floor The floor in the Main Hall is being sanded and resealed from 31 st January to 6 th February. There will be no activities in the main Hall during that week, but all other bookings in the Millard Suite, Lincoln Room and Aragon Room are running as normal.
