He understands, through local legend, that the large tree opposite the Wheatsheaf pub was planted by the vil- lage in 1857 following the Crimean war as a memorial to those who died. It's possible that it was paid or part - paid by the Duberly family, as both Fanny Duberly and her husband Captain Henry Duberly served at Balaclava and Sevastopol during the Crimean war. If the history of the tree is confirmed, the Perry parish coun- cil intends to create a plaque at the tree to ensure that the memory of those who died continues for visitors and future generations. If anyone has any knowledge of the history of this tree please contact the Secretary of the Buckden Local History Society at Buckdenhistory@gmail.com , who will pass the information on. The Roundabout team wish all our readers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
