We shall spend quite a while on early patterns of living as this is a topic which is less familiar than the later eras of the National Trust and English Herit- age houses that we have all visited. We shall also be con- sidering how social attitudes, technological innova- tions and changes in climate and landscape have had an impact on the ways our forbears lived in villages, towns and cities.
