8 Buckden Roundabout August 2024 Church News Weekly Prayer Roster Each week during the year the Churches, in their prayers, remember the residents of particular streets in the village, those who work in the parish and village organisations. Those to be remembered this month are: 4th August Greenway, Aragon Close, Hoo Close, Bishops Way 11th August Village shops, and those who work in them; businesses based in the village, hotels, inns, and those who work at home; homemakers, carers, the unemployed and underemployed, and all visitors to the village 18th August Penda Court, Danes Way, Jute Crescent, Saxon Way 25th August Clubs and societies, their leaders and members, volunteers, and the team that produces and distributes the Buckden Roundabout Election Dedication Service An “ Election Dedication Service ” was held at Perry Baptist Church on Sunday 30 th June, just before the election itself. It was good to see a good representation of the candidates present, all of whom were invited to come, as well as representatives from the community in addition to the regular congregation. The service was not intended to be a hustings but an opportunity for candidates and community to come together in a non con- frontational gathering. As the name implies, it was set in our regular worship service and not intended to promote any particu- lar party or candidate. The candidates did not speak in the service but were able to mingle with the congregation during the tea and coffee that followed. Both candidates and other visitors spoke appreciatively of the time and the opportunity to have a pleasant meeting together. Can I invite you all to continue to pray for the candidates, both the one that won and those that did not. The election may be over but their needs continue. For those who missed the day you can find it on youtube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P - O9_LY7BnU Sauro Menchini Pat, Katie and Jane wish to thank you all for your support and sympathy on our sad loss of Sauro. Thank you too for your kind donations which have now been shared between The British Heart Foundation and Marie Curie. News from the Knot Garden The gardeners settled down for their mid - morning coffee break under the arbour by the church wall. As they were pouring their coffees they noticed that there were more bees around than usual. Looking up they saw there was a swarm of bees just above their head. Fortunately, the bees weren ’ t interested in the coffee or biscuits and just ignored them but the gardeners moved quickly out of the way! The gardeners contacted the keeper of the hives in the field and luckily she was able to come over that afternoon and take away not only that swarm but another one that had settled in the bay tree by the terrace. She took both swarms to a new home more than 3 miles away. We are grateful to The Friends of Buckden Towers for funding the professional cutting of the box hedges. This will be completed by the time this edition appears. The hedges are looking very good. The Garden is well worth a visit just to see the box alone, but of course there is much more to see than just the box. Plenty of visitors enjoyed the gardens during Open Gardens in June. The plant rehoming was so popular that all the plants sold out. The gardeners have taken new cuttings of lavender to extend the lavender hedge, cuttings of rosemary as well as Wall Ger- mander. Spare plants should be available at the Village Fete on Saturday August 17 th so do drop in and have a look.
