Buckden Cemetery - Resident Fees We are lucky to have a beautiful cemetery in Buckden, and it is no surprise that many people who have lived in the village would want it to be their final resting place. We have two sets of fees, one for residents and one for non - residents – in order to secure a plot at the moment we charge £260 for residents for full burial plot and £200 for a cremation plot, for non - residents it is £2000 for either. To qualify for the resident prices, you must be a resident of the village when you make the purchase. If you find yourself needing to leave the village at any time in your life but particularly when you get older but know that you would still like to have your final resting place in Buckden cemetery, it is important that you buy your plot before you leave if you want to secure the reduced rate for residents. We know that this isn ’ t something that we generally like to think about, but we want everyone to be aware of the rules so that families of those who genuinely have a connection with the village aren ’ t landed with a large non - resident bill at an already difficult time. You can see all prices on our website - buckdenpc.org/cemetery Please save the date Buckden ’ s first Repair Café will be on Saturday 5 th October at the Village Hall from 1.30 to 4.30 p.m. We hope to offer repairs alongside refreshments. There will shortly be a dedicated website and further infor- mation will be in next month ’ s Roundabout and on Facebook. If you have repairing skills or are able to help with the café please contact the Parish Clerk. Chemical Weed Treatment Cambridgeshire County Council has reversed its decision to stop chemical weed treatment on highways. It will now rein- troduce it twice a year as a minimum within built - up areas in villages and towns, inside the 40 mph limit or below. Buckden was not scheduled in the first two weeks but we ex- pect that it will have been done by the time you read this is- sue of “ Roundabout ”. A second weed treatment programme will take place in October. Tree Preservation Orders A large number of trees in Buckden are subject to Tree Preservation Or- ders (TPOs) which require the owners to seek permission be- fore carrying out any work on them. The Parish Council is always asked for its comments when any such work is pro- posed. Recently a temporary TPO was placed on a large woodland in Buckden Quarry off Mill Road. The District Council asked us whether we wished to see this TPO made permanent. The Parish Council replied that it supported it being made permanent as it is a very important environmental and eco- logical area. Planning There can be some uncertainty about the role of the Parish Council in Planning. Nearly all planning decisions are made by Huntingdonshire District Council but before they do so they are obliged to consult a number of Statutory Consultees. These include your Parish Council which is normally given two weeks to respond although we may request an extension to fit in with our Planning Committee meetings. Any comments, whether to support or object, have to be worded as a recommendation. This can lead to confusion as it may appear, for example, that if the Parish Council recom- mends refusal it is the same as it making the refusal. It is simply making a comment, in the same way that any member of the public can. If the Parish Council objects but the District Council ’ s Planning Officers recommend approval it is determined by The District Council ’ s Development Manage- ment Committee at which the Parish Council can speak. Councillor Appointments We are pleased to announce that Kayla Larman has been ap- pointed as a Councillor. That means that we have a full Coun- cil. We also have a number of Advisory Groups which comprise both Councillors and non - Councillors. To find out more, and whether you would wish to join, please contact the Clerk or speak to any Councillor.
