18 Buckden Roundabout August 2024 Village News Summer Reading Challenge 2024 – Marvellous Makers! This year ’ s Summer Reading Challenge is in full swing with our young- est residents showing us what great readers they are as they earn their reading challenge stickers, certificates and medals. It ’ s not too late to sign up if you missed it - The Reading Challenge is aimed at kids up to the age of 11, and is a great way to encourage them to keep reading over the summer holidays. Just pop in for more information. Alongside the reading challenge, we ’ re running a number of children ’ s activities and events at Buckden Library this summer: Crafternoons Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2pm until 4.30pm . A craft activity which will change each week, including: Make and Weave - 30 July and 1 August – Get colourful with wool and paper with two different weaving crafts to cover all ages. Make your Library Rock! - 6 and 8 August – Use colourful acrylic paints to decorate your rock and add it to our library rock snake (4 years and over) For the under 4s, a paper version using more washa- ble crayons and pencils. Make a Village – 13 and 15 August – Design your ideal village – draw a house, park, library … and create your place to live on our big dis- play board (all ages). Make it Stick – 20 and 22 August – Make a decoupage keepsake box (4 years and over) or a decoupage butterfly or bird (all ages). Each activity is free but a donation of £1 per child, if you can, to help cover costs is welcome. In addition, we have a guided Cross - stitch workshop on Saturday 17 August from 10am until 11am . This is for children aged 8 - 11 years and must be pre - booked as places are limited. There is a charge for this activity of £3.50 to cover materials. And last, but not least, our Musical Storytime takes place towards the end of the holidays on Tuesday 27 August at 2.15pm . A free, drop in storytime suitable for preschool aged children from 0 - 4 years with a stay and play afterwards. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all library activities and events please. Terrific Tuesdays Our Tuesday morning Duplo and games for the under 5s continues throughout the summer holidays between 10am and 12.30pm in our children ’ s library. No need to book - just drop in to meet up with oth- er families. Children need to be accompanied by an adult. Rhymetime is taking its summer holiday break but will be back on Tuesday 10 September at 2.15pm. Sensational Saturdays Our popular Saturday morning clubs, Lego (all ages) and Family Games and Puzzles (over 3s), continue over the summer holidays every week between 10am and 12.30pm . No need to book, just drop in! Children under 12 do need to be accompanied by an adult please and a suggested donation of 50p per builder would be appreciated if you can. Over 65s support drop in Jeni from P3 will be here every fourth Tuesday of the month offering free information, advice and support for the over 65s and their fami- lies. The next visit is on 27 August from 10am until 12. No appoint- ment is needed, just pop in for help and guidance on how to continue to live independently. Time to apply for or renew your bus pass?
