17 Buckden Roundabout August 2023 Village News August 2023 Summer Reading Challenge Our Reading Challenge is in full swing with lots of children sign- ing up, reading great books and collecting their stickers. It ’ s not too late to join in as you have until the end of the school holidays to complete the challenge – just call in to the library to find out more. For those already part way through – keep reading! Kids ’ Activities over the summer To tie in with our Reading Challenge we have kids ’ activities during every open session at Buckden Library. Tuesday mornings from 10 - 12.30 we are continuing to run our usual Under 5s Toys and Games for pre - school aged children with their grown ups. On Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2 - 4.30 we have a special sports and games themed Crafternoon session for pri- mary school aged children. The craft changes every week, with each repeated twice over the holidays so don ’ t worry if you ’ ve missed one! Suggested donation of £1 per child to help cover materials. Friday evening from 4 - 5.30 is our new Really Random Book Club for young readers aged 8 - 11. Children over 8 can attend to try new books, share and swap recommendations and let us know what they would like to see in their library. Lego Club (all ages) and Board Games Club (over 4s) continue on Saturday mornings 10 - 12.30 throughout the school holi- days. A relaxed drop in session when you need a break from the sun! Yoga in the Library – Wednesday 2 August 10am As part of the Summer Reading Challenge we also have a pairs yoga session for children with accompanying adult. Sharing yoga is one way to build a great relationship with your child or grandchild. Yoga in the library will include age appro- priate yoga poses and simple mindfulness practices. Relax, work in a team and enjoy being in the moment. A small group, lead by qualified local yoga teacher Diana Cros- by, this session is for children aged between 6 and 11 with an accompanying adult who will join in the yoga session too. £2 per pair - Pre - booking is essential either from Buckden Li- brary, by phone 0345 045 5225 or email StNeots.Referral@cambridgeshire.gov.uk with your phone number and we will call you back. P3 information drop ins for the over 65s (formerly provided by Age UK) Caroline is back this month and ready to offer her usual helpful advice and support on how to continue to live well and inde- pendently. She will be at the library on Tuesday 22 August between 10am and 12 noon . Just drop in, no need to book an appointment. THE COMMUNITY CAFÉ is our hub. Just drop in to St Mary ’ s Church Buckden 2.30 - 4pm on the 2 nd Wednesday of every month. Please come and join us, whether you are in need of support, would like to volunteer or just fancy a cuppa, chat and homemade cake. Need someone to talk to? - it is not easy to ask for help, but why struggle when there are people happy to listen and to help? When we keep things to ourselves and struggle on, things can feel overwhelming and a little bit of help can make all the difference. Come and speak to us at the Community Café or email friendsindeed@stmarysbuckden.org.uk . We can arrange either home visits or a friendly voice and ear over the phone. This is a free service and can be either a one - off chat or regular chats. Need a lift to an appointment? Our team of volunteer driv- ers are able to provide transport for vaccination / hospital / dental appointments etc when family, friends or public transport are not an option. There are fixed fees for this ser- vice. Please do give us 48 hours notice if possible; 24 hours notice as a minimum and we shall do our best to meet your needs. DO YOU FANCY BAKING A CAKE FOR THE CAFE? We have a rota of people who bake for the Community Café.
