John Gaughan had an interesting musical career including be- ing a member of the pop group Herman ’ s Hermits. On Friday 10 th June, John and his wife Linda came to Perry Baptist Church where the community joined in the singing of some of the well known songs from those days of the Hermits, as well as hear- ing newer songs written by John himself. However, John was to reveal something more as he spoke of his journey of life from pop singer to a man of faith who is now pastor of a church in Yorkshire. Despite the fame and fortune, he realised there was something vital missing in his life as he took a journey through addiction and attempted suicide. It was only through a commitment of faith in Christ that he was to discover how he could be “ into something good ”, as the song expresses it. This is not the first time that Perry has invited someone from such a background as this to share his music and singing abili- ties as well as to speak of his journey of faith. It is hoped that in the new year we will see more meetings of this nature in Perry Baptist Church. More will be revealed in this magazine as plans develop.
