18 Buckden Roundabout April 2024 Village News April 2024 Spring has sprung, Easter is here and we all have our fingers crossed for less rain and more sunshine! We are busy bees this month at Buckden Library with something for everyone, so pop in and join us for one of our special events, a regular activity or simply to browse through our wonderful selection of books. For children … Duplo and Games Our morning Duplo and games for the under 5s continues between 10am and 1pm every Tuesday in our children ’ s library with the usual selection of jigsaws, Orchard games, building blocks and soft toys. Rhymetime Our weekly rhymetime takes a break for the Easter school holidays at the beginning of April, but will be back on Tuesday 16 th at 2.15pm, ideal for babies to 4 year olds. Easter holiday crafts Over the holidays we have regular crafts to keep the kids happy: Tuesday 2 and Thursday 4 April – 2 - 4.30pm - Make your own book Follow the simple instructions to create and decorate your own book, then fill it with words and drawings. Will it be an autobiography, about a special event or person, or a fantastic story? Aimed at chil- dren 5 years and older. £1 per make. Tuesday 9 and Thursday 11 April – 2 - 4.30pm - Springtime craft and art Join us for a celebration of Spring! We will be making beautiful butter- flies, caterpillars, and birds to colour and decorate. £1 per make. Or take some time at our art table – use the ‘ How to …’ books to help you draw the plants and flowers available. And then how about a bit of bird watching? How many birds can you spot around the library? No need to book for any of these sessions - just drop in. Please note that children must be accompanied by an adult. For adults … The Pathfinding Force of Bomber Command during WW2 – Monday 8 April 2pm. There are still places for the first instalment of this two - part talk by James Blackwood, detailing the problems faced by Bomber Command during the first part of WWII. Also covering the formation of the Path Finding Force and their arrival in Cambridgeshire. For adults and chil- dren over 15. Refreshments will be served afterwards. Save the date … Our next Engage event will be on Wednesday 5 June at 2pm. Mary Burgess, our Local Studies Librarian, will take us on a wide - ranging tour of amazing creations and discoveries in her talk about Cam- bridgeshire Inventions. Booking will open nearer the time. Knit Lit Our Knit Lit book club meets every other Friday from 7pm until 9pm. The next meetings are on 5 and 19 April. New knitters welcome – just turn up! And for everyone … Super Saturdays Combining our two popular Saturday morning sessions has worked so well we ’ re going to keep this going! Every week we will have both Lego Club (all ages) and Family Board Games (over 3s) available be- tween 10am and 12.30pm. Opening hours: Tuesday: 10am – 1pm, and 2pm – 5pm Thursday: 2 – 5pm Friday: 4 – 7pm Saturday: 10am – 1pm Village Hall, Burberry Road, Buckden Tel: 0345 045 5225 www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/library Buckden Cricket Club Buckden Cricket Club will be launching its Spring/Summer 2024 Junior Cricket School on the 18 th of April and will carry on through to the 11 th of July. The sessions will be held on Thursday evenings between 6.00 and 7.30pm, on the Village Hall playing field, and those boys and girls who are under the age of 11 on the 1 st of September 2023 are invit- ed to enrol. There will be a nominal, weekly fee of £2 for participants, or if easier full payment of £25 can be made in advance. The sessions are organised and delivered under the supervi- sion of a fully qualified and experienced English Cricket Board Coach and appropriately authorised helpers. All necessary equipment will be provided, but we are happy if any child has their own bat to bring it along. The focus will be on a mix of skilled coaching and game play, to ensure young players development and enjoyment for those wishing to learn about cricket and perhaps eventually become a future Joe Root or Heather Knight. To enrol your child for these sessions please just turn up on Thursday the 18 th of April, on the playing field. All they need to wear is clothing and trainers that allows them to “ run, jump, throw and swing a bat ”. Senior Cricket For senior cricketers Buckden CC runs three Teams - the 1st and 2nd Teams on Saturdays, participating in Hunts Cricket League Divisions One and Four respectively, with a Sunday Eleven playing in Hunts Cricket League Division Five. Matches start this Year on the 4 th of May and play through to the first week in September. Players of all abilities are welcome to join Buckden CC, we have an active membership with ages ranging from their early teens, to on occasions their early 70’ s.
