April 2024

10 Buckden Roundabout April 2024 For your diary News from the Knot Garden The rain this spring has slowed up the winter work but we have planted a new cherry tree in the apricot bed (turn right as you go through the gate). The overgrown bay tree in the dye bed has been cut back from a very large bush to a lollipop tree shape. We hope this will allow more sunlight on to the dye plants. It also opens up the view from the gate to the Bishop bed. Weeding the herb and dye beds are the next pri- ority. The sun has encouraged the self - set seeds to germinate and grow so we will have a chance to distinguish between weeds and useful plants. Now the sun has returned we ’ re very pleased to welcome more visitors to the garden. The Knot Garden was created by volunteers in the 1990s from the Victorian kitchen garden which was overgrown with dere- lict buildings. We were told recently that at one time pigs were kept in the old greenhouses. We ’ d love to hear from any of you who have memories of the garden when it was a kitch- en garden or who were involved in the construction. You can contact us on knotgardeners@gmail.com or drop a note into the donation box on the garden wall just inside the gate.
